and i think if i remeber him saying at that time he had only about 1k into it if that...

As for tires,all tires cost just about the same for any vehical 31's are not cheaper for toyota nor would they cost more for a jeep..

the difference between the two is price.. jeeps cost about 4 times as much as a yota to make as capable.. a 4.0:1 tcase gear kit for the t cases are like $500. gearsets for the 231??? 1200 from teraflex... everythings cheaper in yota land.. thats why theyre so popular and see them on hardcore trails so often

everyone in town owns a jeep, there are like 2-3 nice 4runners i've seen in reno.

all told i am down a free car in trade, 580 for tires, 200 for wheels, 300 for lift and 400 for a winch to pull jeeps out, also have a 160 roof rack, a 30 dollar Scott-built bumper in back and a 45 dollar scott-built bumper in front.... not bad for a truck that likes to wheel... only thing jeeps have going for them is the 4 liters power- but it leaks like a sieve.... :D

Scott no pun intended, just putting somebody in their place. Your rig is more of your daily driver. I go out and intentionally hammer mine. Thus it breaks, my buddy breaks his yota, bent his housing and broke axles but he wheels like me peddle to the f'ing medal, balls to the wall, you can do that so can all the good stuff. The Jeep is by far the best exploration vehicle for the money. The toyota is and has been exceptional in the off road market But it is not a Jeep.

Look anywhere outside of North America and this is what people are wheeling.

As for Rovers, where have you seen people wheeling those? I am curious because from my time living in South America and Africa I have seen a lot more Toyotas than anything else.

dude no offense taken- i know my shit is more of a daily driver- i need it for geology work and most geology work doesnt involve the Con or anything near it. I just need something that gets me around as well as i can drive offroad- which i'm still learning btw- remember i've only wheeled 2wd trucks and rallyd my old RWD celica...

personally if i had the money to buy a new 4WD that could go places it would be either an H1 or a land rover. nothing else. i like jeeps a lot (i'm actually supporting my girlfriend's choice to eventually buy one) but i like my toyota too. I've seen just as many hard core yota's as hardcore jeeps and in my readings and experience- everything is cheaper. 5000 yota bucks gets you more than 5000 jeep bucks.

DBXJ is correct, mainly Land Rovers all around the world. You know what I have seen and liked were/are the nissan patrol (looks like a fj40)? My gramps had one and he had an fj40 and a willys. He said the willys was the best, go anywhere, he liked the nissan, and the fj40.

Cool Scott, where in South America have you lived? I have a geophysics degree :thumbsup: and I lived in Caracas for two years working in the oil industry. There are a lot of beater FJ45s down there (they use them for busses from the barrios) but there are also a lot of nice newer FJ70s and 80s, and they are not cheap. There are still some Rovers and Jeeps down there, and even a few Nissan Patrols. Check out Tucarro.com for an idea of what is on the market in Venezuela, they have some cool stuff that we don't have here.

I will give you they are hard to find...but mainly because they are being used...people love their yotaz...and you don't have to deal with IFS if you don't get anything after 85...but you can always convert to strait front axle...it is simple...and pretty inexpensive.... I just paid $6500 for this "exploration vehicle" and it has coil springs and lockers and both ends, fits 33s stock, the rear is a full floater and the diffs are bigger than anything Jeep has offered since the 1 ton J truck.
