lol im with Rock Jeep i had that Xj with only a 3.5 inch lift stock D30 front with a Stock D44 rear i swaped into it with an auburn gear Posi and 4.10's on 33's BFG M/T's and that thing could wheel man i loved it. i went right through things other jeeps that where fully locked up got stuck in so yeah lol but i like the YJ Better its just built better. im gona put some RE XJ leafs in the rear so it will stretch the wheelbase a little bit. and im thinkin about FOX Air shocks in the front with a 4 Link in front maybe a 3 link im not sure yet. but i like some of the 4 links ive seen.

Ya i lived in mesa az for 8 years thats how i cought this jeep thing. We used to run trails like woodpecker, ajax, highway to hell, and one of my favorites is the charlough gap(spelling not my thing).I worked for a guy installing auto glass in phoenix . We used to put some glass in at the coors distributing plant . I got to know a couple of guys who were building jeeps on their spare time for the owner of the place. Who would have guessed that my mentor was shanon campbell. Ya i know pretty cool . I still call him every now and then for advice. I never would have thought those pink jeeps(buggys) would have made him so famous.

I also hate the mud. We have to deal with it to get any wheelin done. I like to go down to missouri, and up to minn when i get a chance but for now im stranded in iowa!!!:pissed2:

irocyj41
July 14th, 2008, 05:53 PM
Not alot of rocks . More hill climbs with some rocks stuck in the mud.My first reason to moving back to the mid west was my kids . Then my second reason was that i was going to kill someone if i had to deal with alllllll those people is AZ for mutch longer.

The closest place with rocks is Hanibal rocks in missouri, flat nasty, and some stuff in south dakota. You really have to drive aways to see any. It was nice to have 53 trails within 20 miles of you.

I'm going to try and start painting it today...I have most of the body work done, just need to pick up some primer and settle on the exact color. Hopefully I'll have the tub primed and painted this weekend, fenders/hood middle of next and then get it bolted back together sometime next weekend or so...I need to have the 220 ran in the garage so I can weld up the roll bar for it...and then just wire up the tunes! That is if the motor noise turns out to be a minor thing...otherwise who know :frown: when this thing will get there.... I will say I found alot more time/effort now that I want to work on my own to finish hers to get it out of the way :Big Grin:

Hell,. I cant afford to push the edge too much, but I do what I can. The upgrade list is long, indeed. That and the repair list keeps gettin longer :gapteeth:

hey D4x4--- we should get some of the big dawgs from this site to try suicide hill. then pop over to that 2ed long hill climb that even I could not make. u remember that one? gnarley is an understatement. maybe it should have a rockape-style $ offer to 1st rig to make it...

yeah, i remember that train-wreck, haha. i'm thinking some token sum, like 'i'll buy the first pitcher of beer' or ? + bragging rights. the 2ed hill is nasty. steady 45 degrees up lose, shaley rock and it goes for about 500 yards. i tried and all 4 37s locked in just spin and dig in... needs light weight and horsepower...

some mega wheelin' in my driveway...lookit that slope :Big Grin: and all four are on the ground.:gapteeth:

this is the current status...waitin on a Delta 37" portable chest to place between the frame rails where the cans are currently located. move the cans to the outer corners, move the hi-lift behind the Delta and maybe install a rear-mount T-max (behind and beneath the brake lights).

no wheelin' pics yet cause I'm still getting the EFI quirks eliminated.

72 FJ40, 2.5 springs, 1.5 over shackles, 32x11.50 BFG A/T's, welded rear, and other stuff here and there. Just put in the full roll cage last night, getting parts together for the 350/sm420 swap.

I USED TO KNOW A GUY WHO HAD A FJ40 JUST LIKE THAT....IN FACT THE FIRST TIME I WENT ACROSS THE CON I WENT WITH HIM......

HIS WAS ULTRA LO-BUCK SPRING OVER,SM420 ADAPTED TO THE 2F WITH A HO-MADE ADAPTER AND 35s......IT WHEELED PRETTY DAMN GOOD.

I love my 40, it's tough as hell! I have to keep mine "low budget", I'm on military pay!!! Probably going to stay spring under for now and just keep getting rid of sheet metal as needed. After I do the 350/sm420 swap(hopefully in January), I'll bump to 35's. I want to keep this baby as close to the ground as I can, I have a strong tendency to stomp the pedal to the right!
