ok, so the plan is to build me a Formula Toy.
i'm trying to gather up parts now till i get a chassis somewhere around January. a long ways off, but i still would get stuff like the axles and drivetrain built and ready by then.
now, i don't plan on competing like i initially wanted to, so anything goes.....no rules to hold me back. i still plan on using all toy stuff, just somethings that aren't comp. legal.
here's what i got so far:
chassis: hendrix ftoy chassis on an IFS frame
engine:22R on propane
tranny:???
t-case:??? i'll probably be using Marlin duals, just don't exactly know what i need to get it done.
steering:hi steer, hydro-assist, IFS steering box
suspension:leaves in front, 3 or 4 link in rear w/ airshocks
tires/wheels:39.5 iroks/DIY beadlocked wheels
axles: IFS rear welded and poly perf. shafts (maybe 35 spline conversion???) , 30sp. longs in the front w/ ARB, cryo'd 5.29's in both
is there anything wrong with this list??? anything else i need or should be worried about??? i know i'm missing alot, but these are the things i'm worried about most. any weak links in the toyota drive train somethings like the transfer cases and trannies are pretty vague to me. so any help would be fantastic.

Sounds like you will be wheeling in 2010:clap: I think you should of kept the manche and went from there IMHO.

actually, it'll be done sooner than you think.
the manche worked and all, but it was just too boring and ugly. i'd rather start with something new and build it the way i want it.....not deal with someone else's project (or burden, if you will ).

chassis: hendrix ftoy chassis on an IFS frame
Why an IFS frame? I would use an 85 or earlier frame, they have a higher arch at the front of the frame and you can run a lower lift height and still have room for all of the steering components.
tranny:???
W56 from a 22RE pickup would be the best option. They are stronger than the earlier L and G series trannies. The R151F in the turbo trucks is the ultimate (lower first gear, stronger gears and bearings) but they are rare and expensive.
t-case:??? i'll probably be using Marlin duals, just don't exactly know what i need to get it done.
Marlin or Inchworm both made good stuff and can get you whatever you need. They also both have good info on their websites. You need two transfer cases and an adapter. 22RE transfer cases are 21 spline, turbo trucks have 23 spline input shafts. You can get an adapter to run the stronger 23 spline in the rear case with a 21 spline in the front if you use a W56 tranny. The tricky part is the shifter location for the t-case, there are top shift and forward shift (http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/topshifter/) . The rear case has to be a top shift case.
axles: IFS rear welded and poly perf. shafts (maybe 35 spline conversion???) , 30sp. longs in the front w/ ARB, cryo'd 5.29's in both
If you haven't bought the axles yet and you don't want to compete I would recomend just running a 60 in front and a 14 Bolt in the rear. They will be stronger and won't cost any more than building the Toyota axles.

from what i've read, the IFS frames are the way to go......maybe i'm just misunderstanding things. about the t-cases and tranny......what about an a340 auto and dual 2.28 cases....good or bad idea??? good point on the axles........something i'll think about.

Inchworm has auto adapters now so I think that is a good way to go for a trail rig. They suck on the street because they rob power from an already gutless engine, but on the trail they are fine.
The IFS frame is supposed to be stronger but I rarely see broken Toy frames and I like the lower lift height. What reasons have you heard for the IFS frames being better?
I suppose I am wasting my time anyway, I tend to agree with Duncan that we will never see this thing on trail anyway... prove us wrong!

SO YOUR GONNA DO ALL THIS WORK YOUR SELF GOOD LUCK.
IFS FRAME JUST MEANS YOU HAVE TWICE THE SHIT TO CUT OFF AND THE ONLY BENEFIT IS YOU DONT HAFT TO DRILL 3 HOLES FOR THE IFS STEERING BOX WHICH YOUR GONNA HAFT TO DO ANYWAYS BECAUSE IF YOU DONT PLATE THE FRAME IT WILL BREAK. YOU ARE BETTER OF BUYING A TOYOTA TRUCK AND STRIPPING IT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO BUY ALL THE PARTS ONE BY ONE IT WILL BE WAY CHEAPER THIS WAY.

why pane???
cause i plan on rolling this bitch and i don't want fuel leaks. cause it's easy to do pane........no ecu, fuel cells, fuel pumps, plumbing the fuel cell and on and on.......plus pane is just :thbling:
about the ifs frame, i just read somewhere that they're stronger than the non-ifs frames.......but i trust you guys more than some fawker on another forum. so i guess it doesn't really matter what i get.

IM JUST NOT A BIG FAN OF PROPANE!!!IF YOU RUN OUT ON THE TRAIL YOU ARE ASSED OUT!!!AND IF IT HAS A LEAK IT USUALLY TAKES A BIT MORE THAN SOME DUCT TAPE AND A HOSE CLAMP TO FIX!!!(NOT TO MENTION THE POWER DIFFERENCE)

power??? shit, what power??? it's a 22r, there's no power to begin with  what's a little 'pane gonna hurt???
i can always carry spare tanks. i think 3 mounted in the back will last a good weekend on the 'con. maybe it's the curiosity that's got me into the 'pane thing.....but i still gotta try it out for myself!!! (dumb kids  )

i think before you get into this toy thing, you need to talk to L.D.. that backwoods redneck has played with a toy at least once that i know of, and has broken the frame apart three times that i know of.( not cracked ) by all means, use an ifs frame if you can. just the ramblin thoughts of the mullet man.
