Toyota used a few different flanges over the years. You can get a flange drilled with multiple patterns from All-Pro, Inchworm Gear, or Marlin. Or you can drill the new pattern yourself.

drill it yourself- center that shit and mark it and go!!! or buy the triple drilled dealio. i swapped one out on my friend's truck when i switched her axles. just be ware you can screw up the preload and shiite. so if you take off the old flange and swap it make sure you have the same preload on the bearing.

yea i get ya there, but I can't just drill new holes. the flange itself is smaller. I put the driveline up to it and the bolt holes almost hang off the flange. If I were to drill new holes, the bolt holes would be on the edge of the flange

if I swap in the old flange from my junk third, the flange that fit in the first place, how safe would it be if I don't swap in new parts like crush sleeve, new pinion bolts, etc? I thought you had to replace all that stuff when you change it out?

hey LD, thanks for the offer, but the third is already in the toyota, and I'm not pullin that thing out again. I'm just going to take the smaller one off and put the old one that I know fits back on.
thanks though

BAD IDEA? TAKE THEM OUT AND BRING THEM TO LD OR ME. YOU CANT JUST PUT A FLANGE ON A TOYOTA AND TIGHTEN IT UP.

why a bad idea? I was going to mark the pinion bolt as it is right now, mark how many threads are showing and mark how the flange is on the pinion, that way when I put the other one back on I can tighten it down to where the flange in it is now. and with the pinion nut, I plan on marking it so when I tighten it down, will be in the same spot as before....I don't see why this wouldbe a bad idea....care to educate me mr. :thbling: ?

one problem with it- is that the flange may be a slightly different thickness- so if you put the nut back exactly it could be too tight or too loose. best thing to do is the check the preload with a little inch poundy dealio and make sure it reads exactly the same as before when u are done... there is a lot of cause for trouble with this though...

yea I plan to do that, but Ijust got off the phone with Marlin from marlincrawler and he said
"Begin by carefully feeling the pinion preload-how much it take to rotate the pinion before it turns the ring gear. You need to be very precise and only feel the pinion turning not the ring gear and carrier. He turns the pinion a couple of times, he said you will notice that it will turn only about a 1/8th of a turn before it touches the ring gear. Once you get the feel of the pinion rotation, remove the nut, change the flange and carefully tighten the nut until you get the same feel. If you go too tight, it will feel very rough and must be unloosened."
that was from Marin himself
