My friend and i did Fordyce yesterday, and his FJ40 is still on winch hill 2 or #3, two broken birfields, and sheared the rear pinion, fried his new MM9000 winch after about 100 yards of pulling. I tried giving him a tug with my bronco and broke both my rear axles. His FJ is still there, and I am trying to find parts for it and a new winch to get him out to Fordyce, You can still get around him, but its not easy, we apoligize for the inconvience..
Plan on getting it Sat or Sun, I trust the people on this board not to ****/rob it, but please keep an eye on it if you see it. I swapped the 3rd members, but the driveline flange was different and we didnt have a socket that big to swap them.

my plan is to change that flange, so I can connect the rear DL, and maybe weld up the rear spiders since there will be nothing in the front. I will still need a new winch to get up to Fordyce though. We spent two nights and days working on it with no real forward movement. My 9000lb Ramsey just wont tow that pig uphill with no power to the wheels. I think that is why his fried.. (do those just take brushes, or a whole new elec. motor, draws a lot of current with minimal drum turnage and no power)

I am getting this rig out for my friend, he cant do it because of a medical emergency with his daughter, he is really screwed. If anyone feels like helping, please call me (530) 993-4850 (live near Truckee)

I will be going down in on SAt morning from fordyce, so if any of you 1 ton guys with 12000 lb winches want to make a buck stop by and say hi....

I just hope its still all there, it will be there for 3 un-attended nights, help me keep an eye on it please?

any advice or help is greatly appreciated

last I helped someone get their rig off of the deer valley trail in the snow, they posted up about having it up there for 2 or 3 days with no one there.....Long story short, when we got there, his 2004 rubicon was gone! someone jacked it......

I agree with Kong and Ape....poor decision....good luck though..I'd help if I had what you needed

Its always a bad decision to give the location of the rig. Better to keep that info private and give it to only those that need to know. Most if not all people on this borad reno4xj and pirates would never fuck with someones rig...but its the lukers that sign up looking for shit like this that would. thats why I built a big pile of crap cause no one would still it or any parts off it.....good luck and hope everything works out okay!

I have been thinking about this all day. My suggestion is to pull the birfs out of the front and remove the front third member. Then pull out the broken rear third and put the one from the front in. Now you have rear wheel drive with no additional parts. With some tugging and winching that should get him out of the shortcut in a reasonable amount of time. All of this is assuming that you have not been able to source the necessary parts.

THEY ALREADY DID THAT DH!!!BUT,THE FRONT FLANGE WOULDNT MOUNT TO THE REAR DRIVELINE!!!!I BELIEVE THEY ARE TAKING THE CORRECT SOCKETS TO SWAP THEM!!!!

Thats correct we did all that on the trail. Scary as shit working under a rig on a winch hill with no rear tires removing 3rd members and the only thing holding it is a winch a few rocks to keep it in the air. It all came down to not have a socket for the pinion so we could change flanges. At that point we said fuck it and lets limp Shawns rig out so we didnt have to stay another night.

Spoke with Shawn yesterday and he picked up a portable welder so that he can lincoln lock the rear differential to help make the extraction a bit easier.

UPDATE STOLEN FROM PIRATE!!!!

We got it out yesterday. Shawn is on dial up at home, told me to give an update. Between Chris from Dollar Hill, Shawn, and I we got the thing out at about 230 pm yesterday. The rig was not stripped. Everything was the way it was left. The winch even ended up working after a new optima. Shawn got the rear driveline in place for rear 2wd. Chris from Dollar hill really helped out with the rest of the recovery. He towed the FJ the rest of the way out without an issue. Awesome guy that wouldn't even let us buy him some gas or lunch.
Glad to see the rig was not stripped and all of the positive posts on this board. Thanks again for helping our buddy out. Shawn called him on his cell when we got it out. He was still at the hospital with his daughter, but totally appreciative of all of the help.
