85-88 are the same, but you could use an 89-95 also. The difference is the tranfer case shifter location.

Ya he tried a newer one believe but as stated it the shifter is in a different location.

Does he still have the original transfer case? It will bolt up to the newer transmission, or you can change the shift forks in the later model transfer case.

He sure does, I just dont think he wants to deal with changing the location of the shifters. I will tell him to look at the link you posted.

If he still has it he can bolt it right up to a newer transmission. The only thing that changes is the inspection covers that you use. Just trying to give you guys a few more options in finding a transmission that will work for you.
