My YJ with 404's updates

Someone asked, and I have done quite a bit more work to my rig so I thought I'd post what I've got done...so here it is...


After porting the F-150 box, and modifying my pump, the steering was pretty much done. I still need a 1.5x8 ram, so I just plugged the ports and ran it the way it was. Even as it is, it steers effortlessly. I had to mount it to the outside of the frame like this so that everything would clear right. I then had to cut a hole in the fender for the linkage.

I then moved on to the brakes, so I ran 1/4 inch line all the way around except for the flex lines. I still need a distrabution block for it and a propotioning valve if needed.

Front shocks are still in the works since I will tie then into the front tube fenders once I make my bender.

I finished the driveline which I made out of late model bronco stuff. I just used a V block and I got them both within .008. For the pinion conversions, I used the lathe at my shop and the UNR machine shop.

I also mounted up the air cylinders to the locking mech. I had to make new tops of them both also.

I finished up all the wiring and got the motor finally running. Then, I took it out in my pasture for a little play time. Heres some shots...They are kinda dark...

Now I know this thing is ugly as sin right now, but with my recently purchased 42 iroks, a whole bunch of tube, and blue metal flake paint, I think it will turn out to be quite a pretty rig.

My hummer double bead locks will be powder coated once i buy powder...Im thinking gunmetal grey for those and a dark grey for the rest of the axles....

Its streched to like 89 or 90 I believe. The power steering pump is from a yota and the box is a sawginaw.

I made the rock slider myself....I thought they came out pretty good.... I first ran an endmill over top the entire legnth of the tube.... then matched everthing up to some 1/8 inch plate. The bowed some when I welded it up using the flux dual sheild, but there straight as an arrow when I bolted them up. I really like them... Now its time for a cage and dash....I will be using the stock 95 GT cluster for it.....Its at the water jet right now.... The front bumber is a 3.5 gallon air tank toooooooooo...........

Yea I cant wait to get start on that one, but its definitly not on top priorty right now...I have plenty of other stuff I need to get done before that happens...I thought orginially I was gonna have a problem with the air cylinder idea because I thought that tranny shifted really hard....but its so smooth it is rediculous....it takes one finger to shift gears, but it still is somewhat firm so that way it doesn't pop out of gear...I am really impresed........

THAT WAS THE REASON WHEN I BUILT MY NEXT RIG IT WAS FULL HYDRO!!!I THINK YOUR STEERING ARM IS CAST SO WELDING A TAB TO SUPPORT THE BOLT ON THE OTHER SIDE MAY BE TRICKY!!!ITS TOO BAD SOMEONE DOESNT SELL A BILLET STEEL ARM THAT HAD A DOUBLE SHEER MOUNT ON IT ALREADY!!!

In order to put the bolt in place of the tapered tierod I already drilled the pitman arm out some and welded in a selve using 7018 hi-low... It accually came out really good... If it so happens that I shear bolts constantly, them what I think I will do is basically make my own pitman arm out of 1 inch flatbar... I will plug a hole using a end mill, then cut out the spline section of the pitman arm... from there, I will weld it in place and bed the 1 inch flat bar accordingly...your right tho, a billet peace would be sweet...

I'm at 28 to the bottom of the frame.... right now im a little over 11..... I find that pretty good considering I was planning on 8-9..... All that and I bought the tub for 700, sold the drive train for 1200....so I accually made money. bought tranny and case for 300, motor for 300 and it all just went up from there.... I mean shit I made my own pinion conversions, drivelines, and every single bracket... I have litterally made every possible....It's the little bullshit that kills ya....

Yea I finished the dash rear bump, started on the belly pan, made some power steergin hoses, made bump stops both front and rear, mounted the front shocks and finished up the steering.... ill bust the camera out and start updating some more......Im lazy when it comes to that shit and it dosnt help that Im working 50 weeks... I hate ful time.... but it does pay for the jeep....... I just need to finad a trailer now.....

What kind of lift kit is that?

How does the front bumper airtank setup work? Is it a compressor on the motor or electrical compressor running it?

And on the wiring, I noticed on the finished portion you used cable covers & lots of zipties to keep it clean and organized- another nice touch.

Connect, I've been meaning to get some pics of the dash for you, which turned out awesome, but like I said I'm slacking pretty good....

I'm looking for a place to go not this weekend, but next... any ideas... somewhere in reno preferb.... thinking moonrocks, but I'm not sure yet.... I should check the trail runs, but you guys planning on any thing anytime soon since I have only met a select few of you guys...

Also, once I paint it up a pretty shelby cobra blue, I would like to see it in a mag if its possible, I dont really know what it takes to do that... maybe those guys at RP films could help me out...
