Just got a 1995 Wrangler and was wondering what to do first? It has a three incg body lift  Thats gotta go...so go spring over vs lift kit? Locker suggetions, gear ratios. I want to run either 33" or 35". Its gonna be a daily driver plus off-road rig so I want to find a happy medium.

they are stock axles so they are 5 on 4.5 I beleive...Plan to get the cosmetics done..rock fenders and crusher rear corners, sliders and then upgrade the axles with lockers and upgraded axles, need to keep it street legal as well as street friendly...not planning to keep forever just something to kill the 4 wheel bug while I am redoing the broko.

nope not tired just it needs a lot more work to make it trail worthy and I dont want to miss months on end of good wheelin(or like Lumpy years.....)plus drivin that gas hog back and forth to work sucked, I had to come home and then load up and trailer the broko to where I wanted to go only to have problems...so for now the broko will get the much needed tlc and I will have a decent daily driver plus a wheeler.

find some cheap foolwidths, weld 'em, gear 'em, an use the 38's off the broko......just make sure to bring spare shafts and u-joints :Big Grin:. use the stock springs for a low COG, spring over, and just cut-to-fit the tires in :Big Grin: oh, and square drivelines and a krylon-camo paintjob will finish the ferntuckey look

Fernly to reno everyday? My 1st upgrade would be, buy a used GEO for $1500. Then you can do what you want to the jeep, and get rid of the pile of garbage.

Source some FSJ Waggy axles f/r (both are D44'S and a few inches wider than the Wranglers, do a spring over but be aware of axle wrap issues, and you can run 35's if they are geared right (min. 4.10's) and get a set of lockrites and wham a daily driver (a bit squirrelly but locked f/r and will go anywhere) add a winch (or the Ex-Bitch to the front and shove a cable up her ass !!!) and you can run almost anything...also you can try to locate the SCOUT II axles since they are 44's as well...I might be able to score you a set of full width axles is it a pass side or driver's side drop on that '95 (can't remember right now)....:Big Grin:

A set up like this would good if it was a dd for around town and shit. But he's gonna be driving at least 30 miles one way on a dangerous strech of 80. Them TRUCKERS are crazy SOB's  It should be set up as a commuter not dd. I got 4.0L with 4.56 gears and 35's It takes everything out of that motor to go 80 mph, not to mention its not a very relaxing drive.

Dont think I would waste my money on a jeep that I would be putting over 60 miles a day on it.

well i am a cali transfer so a 60 mile commute a day is nothing....I drove my old wrangler 90 miles one way with 35's and a detroit in ther rear and a trac lock in the front...through traffic and over the grade between gilroy and los banos...it did have its moments on down shifts where it would swap lanes..I dont do 80 now cause I still have too many tickets from cali and cant afford another one....:Big Grin: I probably would get a dailyt driver but this will work for now...hell i aint about comfort but about having a goodtime...

Well if your not in any big hurry, you could buy my rear amc 20 when I pull it out has locker and is as stout as a dana 44 if you do a truss for the axle tubes and then you could regear the front to 4.56 gears to match and run 35s all day long. If your going to run 35's with that 5 speed I would even recomend going to 4.88's.

If you want to spend some time and a little money, do the waggy axles. You can get the driver drop and rear axle from certain years of the waggys! Give you a wider stance and more stability.

Another good option for you would be to find a high pinion dana 44 ford and a ford 9" out of the later model broncos which would work great with your current drive train.

Last but not least you could say fawk it and run 33's and most likely not break anything at all. Then again you could just polish those turd axles up (such as I have done with mine) with some alloy axles and run 35's.

Also, the ford 8.8 is a direct swap for the rear and more stout.

BTW, I might have a high pinion dana 44 full size for your bronco if you want to get rid of the IFS front.

Dude if you run 35s on a Dana 35c you are going to be right back to where you are with the Broko. Puking out drivetrain parts as soon as your Jeep leaves the pavement. Swap in SOMETHING, ANYTHING else! A 9", 8.8, D44, whatever.

The 8.8 has the same 5x4.5 bolt pattern, or you could just get dual pattern rims or some wheel adapters for the front. Less than the money you are talking about putting in to your D35.

Look around P-N-P and you might get lucky and find a matching set D44 H.P./9" off an F-150/78-79 Bronco... or even a L.P. 44/9" will work... then add lockers/gears... and be done...for a while..

Look for a 8.8 if your gonna run 35's. I believe its stronger than a 44. 91-95 explorers had 31 spline and disc brakes. Only bad thing is c-clips. Im running front dana 30 4.56 gears arb. rear ford 8.8 detroit. 35-13.50. Havent really been able to test out the front locker but with the arb i think I can make the 30 last longer. The 8.8 seems plenty strong for 35's

Just wait untill next winter and ill sell you my axles. :Big Grin:

The way I see it is your going to be torching mounts and welding new ones on anyways, so put either an 8.8 or 44 in the rear and call it a day :Big Grin:

8.8's seem to be easier to come by then the XJ d44's, but either way you'll be far ahead of the pack compared to the D35.
