Recently got a bender and bend tech 3-d. Started bending about a week and half ago. Its very slow going with a wife and 3 kids...
Started on the front with a stinger and a radiator hoop.

Wasnt sure if I wanted to do a new dash, but it took about 30 sec to remove the stock one, So I guess now im gonna start lookin for some bling gauges and sheet metal.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/inside.jpg
Still need to tie the back into the frame and X behind the seats and X the top. Im also gonna get new seats and tie them into the cage. I think hard stuff is behind me just a lot of tedious peices to put in.
I know it looks like another green yj (the main hoop) but I told rockape I was gonna copy him :Big Grin: Plus he has given me lots of advise and tips.

Somthing simple. Maybe make a long hoop that will drop about 8 inches and hang it from the tube above the dash, then skin it with some sheet metal. Probably run the /\ in the windshield down through the dash and conect it into the tube under the seats?

If i do that I would need more pole. I was thinkin of just runin the rear pole straight down and through the body to the chassis.

a stinger larger than your hood does nothing. its there to keep you from going over front ways....watch a lot of backwards rollovers and the stinger does nothing but get bent. watch the famous rocakape backflip and notice his stinger goes by-by....ever seen an 80s truck with huge lift blocks and 4 shocks per corner...fads come and go...as will huge as stingers

Stingers dont have to be taller than the hood. I looked at many before deciding how I wanted mine to look. I dont like huge boner lookin stingers. a small stinger protruding out enough can do the same thing without bending. Mine was made based on a line from the top of the cage down to the top of stinger. The line is about 6-8 inches above the hood.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/stinger6.jpg
The radiator hoop is above the hood. Maybe from the other angles it looks lower. The stinger is actually about even with the hood. Even if it is lower, I can care less about sctraches and dents to the hood. Its there to protect the RADIATOR not the hood.

The fishing trip was pretty gay, was more like a beer drinkin trip...The back just didnt look right, started measuring again and there was no way the hardtop was gonna fit back on. So I had to take 3 inches out of the main hoop and sleeve it back together. Then I bent up to more peices for the back. Should get this thing wraped up this weekend, gonna go get some seats today!

Hey Keith, with your exhaust woes... run a straight edge across the flange and see if it's level, if not you can use a belt sander to level it out, if you feel incompetent take it to a machine shop and they will machine it for you, and torque it evenly, unfortunately if they have thin flanges they will warp real quick, (time to pony up some cash and get something with thicker flanges, how is the rest of the exhaust supported ?? because that will pull on the headders and also warp them....( Sanderson makes a real good headder, as well as Doug Thorley) but they ain't cheap.... check out www.centuryperformance.com The owner is Sam Solace, he is located on w 7th st. (he runs an internet based auto performance buisness) Jim used to work for him a few years back (Jim worked at Advanced Automotive) I have delt with him many times and he is extremely knowledgeable.. but a good guy...he carries Sanderson and Doug Thorley stuff as well as Borla....:Big Grin:

Havent posted in a while and I havent done much work on this. Got the cage out welded it up, painted it and herculined the tub. Then got the cage back in, what a pain in the ass to do by your self. Tonight I started mounting the cage to the frame and bolting down the seats.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/Img_1272.jpg This was the front. Was pretty easy just scary cutting the the sliders on my back with a cutting weel :frown: The back was a pain. Had to cut holes in the body then fish down some tube with a bend in it to clear the fuel lines and the tailgate hinge mounts.

Havent posted anything about my jeep, but Ive been doing a few small things to it, mainly collecting parts.
My jeep is sprung under so to get a few more inches of clearance I went to that spring shop on sunshine lane. He made me up some new u-bolts. Then I welded the original spring plate to some new perches and filed the u-bolts.

Started to take apart the portals to install the disc brakes. What a pain in the ass. Could not budge the 55mm bolt on the hub so I had to finally buy a compressor and impact gun. Came right off. The drum brake parts were also no fun Then the backing plate had to come off. A grinder to cut rivets and a bfh made short work of it. Now I need to start lookin for a press to get the hub off the gear...took about an hour and half to get it all off (just one corner) I think now that i know what im doing it will go a lot faster.

The wife aint mad cause she got a new horse trailer and another horse while these axles sat outside for six months. Hope to get it done by end of jan. Im just short on time to work on it.
Was in TOR last week and met the president of Gen Right and grabed some gen right tube fenders and their comp cut rear corners (had to order the corners). Ill get some pics of those up as soon as they are installed.

Been thinkin about notchin the frame or cutting it off , would like to stay away from it but want it to be as low as I can go. Gonna have full hydro, mogs are 7.56 gears plus got the aw4 still go in with the eltronic shifter and got the np231 with the 4:1 (dont know how that will hold up). If I take it anywhere outside where I live i will be on the trailer.
Just got back from napa. Got all the hardware for one wheel. Caliper/bracket, pads, and a rotor. Dont know why I even bother with kragen...The guys at napa (greg st) super helpful. Im gonna try and get one wheel done tonight. If all these parts from napa work out then Ill go pick up the other 3 wheels. This disc brake conv. is killin it. 2500 for the hardware from exaxct and now 200 per wheel for calipers, rotors, etc...
I also gota start thinkin about what I want to do with the H2 rims. balistic has a weld on alum. bead lock wich is super bling but 200 per wheel plus the cost to pay somone to tig it. or just going with staun bead locks.

Got one wheel converted to disc brakes today. Here are the Pics.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/Img_2612.jpg
The Portal housing removed and the main gear pressed out. Was very easy with the new press. The old hub is now garbage!
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/Img_2613.jpg
The new hub with the 8 on 6.5 lugs pressed in. Also the seal guard pressed on.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/Img_2614.jpg
The new hub pressed on the portal housing and bolted back on the axle. Also the brackets for the caliper brackets are bolted on.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/Img_2618.jpg
Here is the new rotor and caliper. Both ford one ton parts. Also a wheel spacer provide in the exaxt kit.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/Img_2616.jpg
VIALO! H2 rims fit now.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/Img_2617.jpg
The deep backspacing of the H2 rims almost protect all the new parts. Should be going back to Napa some time this week to pick up 3 more rotors and calipers. This conversion will be pretty easy now that I got one under my belt and all the right tools now.

The one jake did had disc brakes (the one in Jp mag) I believe he used the same kit. I wanted to go with the kit so I could use lighter wheels and not have to mess around with the original brake pads, lines, hubs, etc...
3 link in the rear for sure. I think a 4 link in the front will help clear the pinion snout vs. 3 link. I really wont know for sure untill I get the axles under the jeep. You might need to take a drive out here to point me in the right direction! As far as suspension I was just gonna go zj springs and shocks just because money, but now im leaning towards gettin some coil overs. Also gonna have to figure it out when the axles are under the jeep and see whats gonna work best.

This bitch is heavy. Had to move the 350lb peice of plate by myself! Was gonna go with 3/16 but ran into sam (samco) at metal masters and he talked me into at least going with 1/4" glad I did.

separation is about 12" at the frame its gonna be about 6"
Im thinkin the lower links will be around 43" the wish bone will be around 34"
One end the links will be adjustable about 2 1/2". Wheel base around 116"
The front lowers will be around 43" as well with some adjustment. First time doing this. Havent used the triad calculator but this looks like it might work. Any thoughts will help. Thanks!

Upper brackets are gonna be on the frame, I think its about 42" outsided-soutside. Gonna be hard to triangulate the lowers since the polyper brackets I got to mount to the bottom of the frame, And the cast on the mogs starts right at 43". Would it work to have the lowers on the axle about 35-40"? and 42" on the frame? (all measurements are outside) Also the frame mounts on the upper trilink will be about 10" behind the frame mounts for the lowers?

Any bit of triangulation on the lowers is good even if it is just a few degrees, it helps to reduce rear stear. Also what helps is to keep the lowers as flat as possible. Have you played with the 4 link calculator on pirate.

Put the .0200 on the bottom and the .0300 on the body end.
Dont know much about them but I started reading the coil over bible on pirate. One thing is they are long! Ill probably have to mount them to the top of the cage!

Got some stuff done today.
Finished gettin the front axle together and got it under the jeep. The mogs are pretty heavy...Im gonna try and use the stock steering arms and tie-rod. It sits in back of the axle, so I fliped it around. The tie-rod will be in the front and Ill try to mount the single ended ram in the back.

just remember your shocks need to either limit your total uptravel or you are throwing away all that shock you paid for.....
When I re-do the two seater I am planning for 20" under the belly but with 6 inches of uptravel front and rear!!!!The plus for me is that the chassis is already stepped to accomodate it!!!
You need to get your chassis at ride height, axles under it on the tires and then mock your shocks in so you know where the shock mounts need to be!!!Im thinking those super travel shocks are gonna end up through the floor and hood!!!
And...you may end up C-notching your frame to be able to fit a panhard and still have uptravel in the front!!!

I read somwhere on pirate that you can mount the shocks at full stuff. There is a formula for each shock, for like a 14 in you mount the shock brackets about 23" apart. Then you just need to hope you have the the right coils for the up and down travel you want... I need to find that thread and read up on it again.
And yeah they will be through the hood and in the back they will go through the rear wheel wells and tie in about 10" above the tub to the cage.
Was messing with the link calc. and got this
FRONT:
anti squat 94.29%
Roll axis angle 7.46
Roll center Height 30.52
instant center x axis 147.23
Instant center z axis 41.04
36" upper length
40" lower length
Does the upper link need to go the driver side frame? and attach near center line of axle? and does panhard need to attach to the frame on passenger side and axle on driver side? Im pretty sure it does just want to confirm, and would like to put the upper on the passenger side (frame)
REAR:
anti squat 95%
Roll center height 31 Roll axis angle 8
instant center x axis 132
instant center z axis 39
upper length 32"
lower length 43"
MR.ROCKAPE
March 30th, 2008, 12:12 PM
SINCE YOU ARE GONNA GO SINGLE UPPER LINK YOU CAN PUT IT WHERE YOU WANT...(THOUGH IT MIGHT HAVE SOME ODD STREET HANDLING WHEN BRAKEING OR ACCELERATING...)
IF YOU LOOK AT LO-BUDGET,THE UPPER LINK IS STRAIGHT,NOT ANGLED AT ALL(I BELIEVE THAT CAUSES A BIND WITH THE PANHARD IF YOU DO ANGLE THEM...)LOWERS ARE SLIGHTLY ANGLED SO THE FRONT TIRES DONT RUB,WHEN TURNING....
SINCE LO-BUDGET WORKS WELL I PLAN TO DO IT JUST LIKE THAT AGAIN(UPPER LINK AND PANHARD BOTH MOUNT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CHASSIS)
AND AS FAR AS YOUR #S GO.....THEY ARE REALLY HARD TO APPLY TO A MOG....THE TWIST THOSE PORTAL BOXES PUT ON THE HOUSING HAS GOT TO HAVE SOME EFFECT ON WHERE THEY ACTUALLY TRY TO ROTATE THE HOUSING AND LINK PLACEMENT....IT WOULD BE LIKE USING THE SAME PLACES ON A DANA70...THE LOWER LINKS WOULD MOUNT ON TOP OF THE TUBES AND THE UPPER LINK TOWER WOULD BE 2 FEET TALL......I BELIEVE IT HAS TO HAVE SOME EFFECT!!!(I COULD BE WRONG AS I AM KNOWN AS A MOG HATER....:Big Grin:)

rig is looking sweet.
you're definitely going want those shocks mounted up high, I wish I had mounted them higher on mine, and they're up thru the hood. 5-6 inches of uptravel to full bumpstop compression will make the highspeed stuff softer. Mine are like 5" up in rear, 6"+ up in front to full bumpstop compress with less than a inch shaft left on the shocks. I wish I had mounted the coilovers higher on my hoops to allow for more shaft at full bump and more uptravel when flexed out. the tires only move up like 6", and drop like 10". It seems to work well enough and is pretty stable, but more uptravel at the corners would even be better.

Tomarrow Im gonna work on the rear upper wish bone. should be able to get it done and mounted. Also did some reading up the coil overs. Pretty easy, just discharge them, measure distance (eye to eye) put your mounts that far apart at full stuff. Then slap the coils on, mount the shock charge em up to where you need to be. Just gotta hope I got the right size coils.

Well I worked on the rear wish bone yesterday. Took about six hours, came out real nice. The notches were good and everything fit real tight.

The only problem was I didnt measure twice and cut once :14:...I got the inside measurement and got going to fast and for some reason I thought it was the outside measurement...Anyway it was off by about four inches so I guess it was just good practice. Good thing I just tacked everything. Thats what happens at 12:30am I guess. Was pretty pissed.:07:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/wixjp_photos/004-1.jpg
I laid it all out on my welding table. I used a piece of 1/4" plate for a flat edge. Marked where the brackets would be (on the frame) on the flat edge and then I tacked the joints to the flat edge where they would be on the frame. Then I laid out the center tube and tacked it down as well. Then I just notched some tube and put it where it fit.

I put it under the jeep where I got the brackets mounted. (sorry no pics) The upper link fits perfect. I got all my links done expect the front upper and the panhard. Im hopin to have this thing on its own wieght by the end of the week :Big Grin: (if I can find my missing coils)

Im gonna have crazy torque at the axles so link separation is a must. Wanted to keep the lower link brackets high to take advantage of all the ground clearance, So the link separation (about 10") pushed the rear upper link up. And even If I wanted to I could have only droped it about one inch. So I could have torn off lower link brackets or a "mountain"?

Everything looks right. Got about 6 inches showing on the shocks and about 5" until the truss will hit. Only concern is maybe the springs are too stiff. Right now the are fully discharged, I guess they will losen up (springs) then I will charge them (shocks)? Any input? Or shall post this question on Renoxj?

Forgive my coil-over ignorance, but the coils are supporting all of the weight so it shouldn't matter if the shock is charged or not? 6" of compression for a coil-over is fairly low? Charging the shocks gives you a bit more ride height?

Ignorant here as well. Ya the coils are supporting all the wieght and charging them will raise the ride height (which I dont want). After you carge them you can adjust the coils to take the wieght back... i guess. 6" of compression also means 6" of uptravel and 10" of down which is close to what I want.

I still need to make some front shock mounts, then mount the shocks. Should only take a few hours. Only problem is when I ordered my 1.5 die I got a 6.5 inch instead of the 4.5" and I havent sent it back, I may just use it and have big bends on my shock hoops...
Here's the steering stuff. after shocks Ill start putting all this on.

Also need to get some d-lines made up and new exhaust put in. Any recomendations for somone to do the exhaust and make some drive lines? Holy shit are you looking for a sponsorship from Monster or something? You are going to give yourself a heart attack!
I imagine the coils will settle a little bit, but what's the point of rolling coil-overs with less up-travel then an air shock would of had? I thought the idea was to have like 40% uptravel or something close to that number...

I only drink one a night while working in the garage. They collect on the floor and to get them out of the way I throw them on the hood. What you see there is about a months worth...
been reading on the coilovers and yeah 30-50% up travel is where I should be. Im close with the back but gonna have to rework the front shock mounts, (somehow the got mounted to close together) and with that I think rear will be getting close to 30%. The back is about 2 inches taller, Im hopiing that with the feul cell and gas, some gear and settleing it will come down. I re-measured the rear and I have 7" left on the shock shaft showing and about 6.5" untill I hit, so Im pretty happy with that.

Might have this drivable this weekend! Got all the brake lines hooked up, was a challenge getting everything for the mc swap...but made it work.
steering is plumbed up. Just waiting on some High steer arms that I ordered last week. and it will rolling out of the garage!

Pretty much got it done. Just have to figure out the fuel problem and rear brakes, tie the front shock hoops together. Also need to Re-route the exhaust, put some limit straps on and paint it (if I feel like it). I started the trany mount/skid today should have that done tomarrow. Oh yeah and Im gonna order some mini air cylinders tomarrow for the lockers.
