View Full Version : Engine Wont start

So I thought I had a loose connection to the alternator but that didnt fix it. Keep driving it around town this afternoon trying to see if I could get a good charge, but everytime I come back to the garage and turn it off it wont start back up. This all started after I hit the large mud holes off of Keystone and McCarren on wed. It hasnt held a charge since. I keep having to use my portable jumper to start it, starts right up and runs fine until I turn it off then nothing.
So I took the battery ground off while running and the engine kept running so I think the alternator is good. Also, the battery is reading 12 volts when I have the engine turned off... So at this point Im at a loss on what could be the problem.
Any pointers or suggestions would be helpful.

Change your battery cables, even if its not the problem they probably need it anyway. Hey those manifolds arent just gonna fall off by themselves!

Go get yourself some spray thats used for drying out electrical connections. If you spent as much time spraying your engine with the power washer as you said there might be water that got into places that water shouldnt be...also could have shorted the battery and killed a cell.

take it by kragen while it is running and they can test your stuff and tell you what is wrong with out having to take anything out. Good luck!

Took the alternator by Kragen and it was ok, turns out battery is bad. Guess 12 volts dont mean shit.

I just thought the battery was good when it was reading 12 volts so thats why it got tested last. Oh well, always good to learn how to trouble shoot stuff.
