So I have been reviewing the different kits for the np231and was wondering what expirenece people have had. I see rubicon express makes a kit1801 thats referred too as the hack and tap...and then there is the traditional kit. Is the hack and tap any good? The price is about a 100 bucks different and the Np231 doesnt have to be pulled apart....I have 38" boggers and 4.88 gears....so I need to make sure it will be strong enough.

Anything quick and easy usually isn't stout....hence the name "hack-n-tap"..just a quick fix for someone lazy, if you want bullet proof (but nothing is) ya gotta take the hard route...

Just wondering cause from what I have read the hack an tap basically you off the end off the spline shaft and then you drill it and tap it so you can bolt the kit on. The whole kit is the same thing although you do get a shorter tailshaft section which would help with the driveshaft length. Also where is a good shop to get driveshaft work done? The bronco has a cv joint driveshaft so if I have it shortened to the correct length and do the kit I should be a happy customer. :Big Grin:

My sye kit is from advance adapters and im using the RE cv stlye drive shaft. Total it cost me about $500. Before I installed the slip yoke was just barely hangin on to the tailshaft and ready to fall off. It drives much better now and was really easy to install.

I WENT THE HACK AND TAP ROUTE BACK WHEN I HAD A 231. FAIRLY SIMPLE TO DO, DID IT WITH THE T-CASE IN PLACE IN THE JEEP. DON'T REALLY SEE HOW THIS METHOD IS ANY LESS STOUT UNLESS YOU ARE SWAPPING IN A STRONGER SHORT SHAFT WITH THE OTHER KIT.

So what drivelines do you use with the hack an tap? It looks like a flat plat with four holes. Where do I get a driveline like that? I know rubicon express has them but do any trucks use them that i might get from PNP? Also If i got with the full kit does it just use a standard double joint setup? I am not hip to the proper terms (or didnt you notice) so enlighten me please.

THE HACK AND TAP COMES WITH A FLANGE SET UP FOR A CV DRIVESHAFT.
