I've got another idea. Make a three trail,no trailer run. Start with Barrett, then the Con and finish with Fordyce and the first one to Meadow Lake wins. Have check points. Drive straight through each, have another driver and switch off. Or if we don't want to race we can just do the trails.

A group from my local club did all three in 5 days. I missed it but they said it rocked!

Barrett Lake and Rubicon on the Loon side are really close to one another on Highway 50. Do Barrett which you come out the same way you go in. Then run the Con from Loon to Homewood. Drive 60 minutes to Eagle Lakes and run Fordyce up to Meadow. Easily done in 3 days. I, along with many other people on this board have done each of these trails in a day. Long story short, I'm down for a race:eyebrowraise:

Is there a certain month that would be better? You can make a pretty long poll with all the weekends for next few months. The earliest I can go is the 2nd weekend of june. The 8th-10th. Or should it be set for later like end of august or september?

this 30-40 mile drive...is that on a street or on say a dirt road where I can drive less than 25mph.
See my bead locks are a DIY type so they dont balance for shit. Once I hit about 20MPH, the ole girl starts to shake herself apart.
The problem is that the tires do not perfectly center over the bead locks so adding beads or something to help balance the tires is pretty difficult.
Maybe someone knows a trick I can try when I get back home...one that does not involve buying new bead lock wheels.

i know alot of people go in from the tahoe side and go to the lake and turn around and come back out the same way. Which sounds fine to me. I have only run the rubicon coming in from loon lake and then to my tow rig. I had it parked at some lodge just outside of tahoe....so someone with more Rubicon expierence needs to head this one up!

I agree with spoon if you are taking your tow rigs... Last year we came out at Tahoe and had to borrow B2's moms car to take us back to loon. Sucked, 2 hr drive to get back then another 3 to get home.

First of all if you start on the loon side the "hard obstacles" are downhill, going down a obstacle is like falling off a rock. Going up big sluice and old sluice is more interesting and when you're finished with the trail turn around and nurse anything broken downhill to the Tahoe side.

we're off for the annual Rubicon run thursday morning--7/19. we go in the traditional way via wentworth springs-- this way offers a lot more trail for ur time and bypasses loonie lake alltogether. right after the WW springs camp ground, the trail gets nasty in a hurry! Several nice ledges in the trees to climb thru. We'll camp on granite bowl or near Ellis creek thursday night, then drive to rubicon springs friday, staying thru monday, exiting up cadillac. we have the dirty dozen camp reserved for our run, so if any of you nut sax are in the area, stop by for a brew. day trips to long lake, etc.

Agreed-- same with Pardoes and Strawberry. Long ago, we used to be able to drive up to carson pass on the south side of red lake-- the devil's stair case so-called by the emigrants-- but aah, progress, now there's a gate. Also, from red lake south over the elephants back to blue lake is more scenic than boulder hopping, but fun.

as for deer valley, i mucho prefer to run from hermit valley to blue lakes-- fun to power up the steep hill, rather than descending. Still, the hi-lo's put on a good event worthy of our time and $.

jmust got back from 5 days on the con. we go the traditional way in-- wentworth springs to tahoe. since the demise of gatekeeper, its noit a lot of fun-- the WW springs way in adds about 15 minutes more driving, but ya get hella more trail and it starts right from the camp ground there. massive ledges to get up and over. camped 1st night at ellis creek. drove to springs and enjoyed several days of R&R. several places on trail we used to take, however, all are now off limits and the rangers are issuing tickets for a number of things, altho we did not see any rangers on the trail, other than merlin.

the 'official' trail is now clearly marked w/ signs and adheres to the traditional routes-- so many bypasses are not technically illegal. most important is the bypass around little sluice-- the official bypass parallels LS, but on top of the ridge just to the north and soon drops into the top of LS and ur on ur way to million dollar hill. the old wide bypass of the bypass now invites tickets.

a few more coruse corrections on the slabs area and past buck as well.

if ue rig is street legal, park tow rigs at the mckinley staging area, then drive down to ice house road, do the trail and pop out at tahoe and ur trailers.

going this way is, believe it or not, more down hill than up hill, cadillac excepted.

and no not really but it looks like the block was jacked up for a while once I get it pulled I can take some better pics. There were spots on the pieve that snapped proving it had been wearing for a while and there is a long crack that runs aalong the bottom of the block...all the rods are still in tack nad nothing is broke internally. I can start it up and drive it around...low speed...dont worry guys I wont try and put it back together with jb weld.

I'm assed out as usual... unit bearing gave out on the stock axle !!! so I am out for the long haul.. until I can get the swappage done...:frown: I don't want to spend $$$ on a pos axle I don't plan on keeping for too much longer... Got the 21/4" .250 dom ordered for my longarm (3 link set up)...(it was a shade over $440 :eek:) and a sheet of 18ga. for filling in the inner fenders and outer open areas of the tube fenders... still saving to get the 2x3 box tube for my next set of sliders... and having to save up for the EVO 3.0 Heims !!! (that fawker from Fl. better be gator/shark food soon !!!) so I have some savin to do and then get back awn it...(hopefully it won't turn out to be a LUMPY BUILD !!!) Sorry Dude !!...:Big Grin:

Headed eastbound, the trail from before spider to million dollar hill is well marked-- most still take the old northern bypass, thru the twin trees and get cited. The marked trail parallels LS just immediately to the north and literally over looks LS, then it makes a steep drop into upper LS and then becomes little devil sluice-- follow that and soon ur at top of million dollar hill. we were there late july and it was well marked-- altho some tards may have stolen an official trail marker. if u ever see someone w/ one of those hanging in their shop, kick some ass and pirate will blacklist them for ever...
