So whats the real rundown on Fordyce? I want to run it the weekend of Jund 23rd and 24th. Wife and daughter out of town so its a perfect time to run it. What are neccassary trial items? I need to work out a few bugs so what a better place than this? I am going camping at Meadow lake next weekend so I might just play around a little. Anyone want to go? Do I need a winch? I got lockers front and rear...

take a winch, lots of food and beer. more beer to pay someone to tow your broken ass out with. a trailer load of extra parts. oh ya, good luck, not your best test track:kackepieksen: :gapteeth: :gapteeth:

Besides my steering what would I really need to beef up? Is the trail that bad? I have been going trough past sierra trek photos and I know how photos dont do a trail justice and it looks pretty nasty but not totally nasty...I do have a spare rear driveline and will pick up spare ujoints...what is a good checklist? And go ahead and raze me but once you get it out of your system please give me a helpful answer:tongue:

FORDICE IS A MORE TECHNICAL TRAIL THAN THE CON. IF YOUR GOING TO CAMP AT MEADOWLAKE GOING DOWN WILL BE EASYER, BUT COMMING BACK UP WILL BE YOUR REAL CHALANGE. FAIRLY GOOD PHONE SERVICE IF YOU NEED IT. THINK ABOUT GOING INTO THE CON WITH US NEXT FRIDAY FIRST, AND SEE HOW THE RIG HOLDS UP, THEN TRY FORDICE.

I have run the con many times. First on 31s open front and that was a pretty tought time. A couple of other times on 33's locked front and rear and that wasnt too bad. Now i am on 38's locked front and rear with 4.88s. I know the wife wanted to go camping so Ill see if I can swing her towards the rubicon, but the real problem is I already told the kids so I cant fit five people in the jeep.

FATHERS DAY IS OUR ANNUAL RUBICON RUN. WE TRY AND GET IN BEFORE TOO MUCH ROCK STACKIN TAKES PLACE. CINCE MY RIG ISN'T FINNISHED YET, I'LL BE DRIVEN MY WIFES RIG, AND I DON'T DRIVE IT LIKE I DO MYOWN, IF YOU GET WHAT I'M SAYIN. BUT THERE IS A SIZABLE GROUP GOIN IN FRIDAY AND/OR SATERDAY. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US, WE'D BE HAPPY TO HAVE YA IN OUR CAMP. YOU KNOW IT JUST DAWNED ON ME, A GUY IS BRINGIN IN A BRONCO 2 WITH JUST ABOUT THE SAME SETUP YOU DID, IT'S FIRST TIME OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. I THINK MIKE PUT A 14BOLT IN THE REAR.:CowBoy-smoking:

I AGREE WITH L.D., TEST YOUR RIDE OUT ON THE 'CON FIRST. FO'DYCE ISN'T SUPER TOUGH BUT SEEMS LIKE WEIRD THINGS END UP BREAKIN' ON THAT TRAIL. WITH SOME OF THE BREAKAGE MYSELF AND OTHER FRIENDS HAVE HAD ON THAT TRAIL, I THINK THERE IS EVIL SPIRITS UP THERE. PLUS THE WATER CROSSINGS CAN BE SPOOKY AT TIMES. I'LL PROBABLY BE HEADED IN TO THE 'CON NEXT FRIDAY WITH THE FLOPPER TO TEST SOME SLIGHT MODS AS WELL, SO THAT MAKES ME AND THE SULTAN OF SUN VALLEY,:mullet: L.D., OUT THERE TO TOW YOUR BROKE AZZ OFF THE TRAIL IF NEED BE.

LAST YEAR WE WENT INTO FORDICE EARLY. THE WATER WAS 3.5' DEEP, AND FLOWING AT 300 CFMs. (note to self, don't go in if more than 250 cfms) it was an adventure. your right, wierd shit happens on that trail. HEY YALL, JUST KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR MY OD GREEN STEPSIDE TOYOTA, STOP AN SAY HI, DRINK A BEER:lout:

YES, GOIN IN FRIDAY NIGHT, GOIN TO TRY AND SET UP CAMP ACROSS THE CREEK, BUT WE'LL SEE WHEN WE GET THERE. AS FAR AS THE WATER CROSSINGS GO, NOT SO DEEP PLEASE. AT THE FIRST CROSSING THE FAN DROUND THE ENGINE, AT THE BUGOUT I GOT PUSHED DOWNSTREEM. I DIDN'T NEED TO WASH OUT THE TRAIL DUST FROM THE FLOOR, THE WATER WAS RUNNING OVER THE HUMP

WE WILL BE HEADING IN EARLIER IN THE DAY ON FRIDAY AND CAMPING IN THE SPRINGS AREA. IF YOU RUN INTO A SMASHED UP BUGGY AND A BLUE TOY TRUCK THAT'LL PROBABLY BE US. NOW BACK ON THE FORDYCE TOPIC FOR BIG BLUE, WEIRD SHIT HAPPENS UP THERE. I'VE HAD QUITE A FEW MELLOW WHEELING WEEKENDS GO AWRY ON FORDYCE. EVERYTHING FROM GUN-TOTING TWEEKERS INVADING OUR CAMP SITE TO STRANGE ACTIN' SASQUATCH-LOOKIN' PEOPLE WALKIN' THE TRAIL TO SPLIT OPEN AXLE HOUSINGS, MYSTERIOUS ELECTRICAL FAILURES, CAB CRUSHING ROLL OVERS, VEHICLES THAT ONLY OVER HEAT ON FORDYCE, SEVERAL KO'D RADIATORS AND THE REST OF THE USUAL BREAKAGE: AXLE SHAFTS AND DRIVELINES. ONE OF MY FRIENDS POPPED AN AXLE SHAFT, THEN SNAPPED A MAIN LEAF, THEN THE ENGINE DIED AND WOULD NEVER RE-START NO MATTER WHAT WE TRIED ALL IN THE DISTANCE OF 6 FEET ON AN AVERAGE SECTION OF TRAIL!!!!! I AM STARTING TO LOSE COUNT OF HOW MANY TIMES I'VE BEEN WITH GROUPS WHERE WE HAD TO TOW SOMEONES BROKE-OFF JUNK OUTTA THERE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS WITH FORDYCE BUT THAT PLACE IS A FAWKING FO' WHEELING BERMUDA TRIANGLE FOR ME AND MY HOMIEZ. ON THE 'CON WE NEVER HAVE ANY PROBLEMS.

well I limped home...no one was there and the other group never showed up so I didnt go to far down fordyce. Actually went down a trail till it intersected the fordyce and then turned and went up. All in all jeep did good. I got a little throttle happy on a big rock face and bent my rear springs and toasted both rear shocks...bouncy ride home...oh and I bent the drag link but no shock there. :Big Grin: Awesome weekend. Camera took a shit on the way there so i took pics with the camera phone but they are kinda crappy.

So we had 7 rigs and 10 guys going out to fordyce early sat morning. The Plan was to leave early from SierraVille (which is only 18 miles from the meadow lake turn off) and go down fordyce as far as we could and turn around come back.

The six other rigs were all coming up from the bay area and got here friday afternoon. They couldnt wait until sat and had to go wheelin. They hit up some small trails around sierraville and the carnage was started. Friday night 3 rigs broke down. One broke a front 44 shaft, another tore up his drive line, and the third had a tierod shaped like a W. This turned Friday night into a long one...And also meant a trip into reno sat morning for parts.

Instead of leaving Sierraville at 7 we didnt get out of there untill around 11:30. We thought we would take the back dirt roads up to Yuba pass and drop down right on meadow lake. This took a lot longer and meant lots of dust. We didnt get to meadow lake untill about 1pm, and out of the 7 rigs only one had been to the trail before. We took one wrong turn and ended up waisting another 2 hours...:14: By the time we finally got to fordyce it was about 3 pm and guys were starting to puss out...We got to the first hill (from meadow side) and I talked 3 other rigs into still going for it. The other 3 were gonna sit at the top and wait. The guys that went down were finally ready to go. We made it a few hundred yards past the 1st hill only to find a broken down jeep right in the middle of the trail with no were to go. So we decided to throw in the towell and head home...

In all it was a fun day. Kinda frustrating but still fun. I installed a tera low 4:1 kit the night before we went very happy with it. Tony at T.O.R. gave me a killer deal on it and I couldnt pass it up. I want to get back up asap. Got a little taste of it and want more. Here are the pics.
