I heard alot of people weld the spiders, and then weld the spiders to the carrier. If you check out billavistas 14b build it'll go into the details more.

from 14 bolt bible
These pics are of the carrier removed. Mine is fully welded up making it a huge spool. I have read about some folks just welding the spider / side gears by filing in the valley's between the teeth and then reinstalling them. I personally have never understood this. It's not as if you need to save the carrier, since they are cheap and extremely plentiful. Also, I would think that in this manner, those welds would see quite a bit of shock loading. It's also a real bugger to reassemble the carrier and gears after you have just welded up the teeth and are trying to save the carrier.

ON MY TWO SEATER I JUST FILLED A FEW OF THE TEETH OF THE SIDE GEARS!!!I WANTED TO SAVE THE CARRIER BECAUSE A MINI SPOOL DROPS RIGHT IN IF I SOME HOW BREAK THE SPIDERS.

JUST WELD...AND THEY HAVE HELD UP TO NOTHING BUT HARDCORE RUNS SO FAR!!!!WHEN BOTH WHEELS ARE OFF OF THE GROUND THERE IS SOME MOVEMENT IN THEM BUT THE HAVENT FAILED YET!!!!I JUST TURNED MY WELDER UP TO BLITZKRIEG AND MELTED SOME METAL!!!!

I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE TACK THE SPIDERS ALL TOGETHER,MAKE SURE THE CARRIER STILL FITS AND THEN REMOVE AND WELD THE HELL OUT OF THEM!!!!

i could do it with the grinder and a cut off wheel and or the torch.. but a plasma makes it so much faster and cleaner:Big Grin:

You could always go with the proven Oxy/Acet setup on the cheap. That and there are "HOMEMADE" plasma cutters out there and cheap off brands.

Pretty interesting actually (40 amp plasma cutter at less then $300) to try out.

yea... i have a torch.. but it still takes alot of time.. and the cut is never all that good no matter how hard i try. i was looking at that one on pirate and was thinking about buying it.. it would probably be the most used thing in the shop besides the welder. guess when i get more money i will buy that tool next
