so how do you press apart axles shafts? I broke the short shaft on the drivers side sunday...lost a bead and was trying to back out of the crevass I got wedged into and heard the infamous curpop....do I need a press or what??? And if so anyone got one they wanna let me use to do this??? I can brong over the parts? I got an extra outer cause last time i broke the inner.....hopefully santa will bring me some chromo axles.

Man you cant catch a break with that rig. Are you talking about seperating the u-joint from the yokes?

A HAMMER AND A VISE IS ALL I USE!!!!GET THE AXLE OUT AND GET A NEW U JOINT AND A NEW SHAFT ......BRING THEM BY THE SHOP AND ILL TEACH YOU HOW TO DO IT!!!!

this was more driver stupidity....again. AI wedged into a cravass nad peeled the bead so one tire was just spinning and the rig was leaning on the other one so naturally something had to give.....I got an extra shaft so Ill just get a new joint and go to work!

I use the hammer and vice method, better than hammer and socket. Set the ears on top of vice jaws and use a BFH to pound on the base of the yoke, this will push the u-joint up. Flip it and do the same for the other side. Oh and just for you, make sure you take out the c clips first :wink:

thanks guys but it seems that I am in deeper trouble with the motor than the axles....hopefully that v6 will show up at my door soon!!!!
