What Tires to get ???
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright I still have aboout 40-50% tread left on the factory Rugged Trail T/A's, they are quiet and smooth, and fits for dry or minimal wet pavement driving, as soon as it snows the tires are garbage, they are minimal for forrest service road driving. Now, what I actually use the truck for is DD, Family rig with 90% on hwy/street drving, with about 10% offroad (soft sand light muddy forrest roads) christmas tree hunting etc..., it's still a street rig in stock form (nothing upgraded or molested yet, (still under warranty and payment) I am looking to go from a 265/70/17 up to a 285/70/17 (same size as the power wagon) and these tires will be going on my '05 CTD.
Yeah swampers would look cool but it's a street driven rig 90% of the time so it's non feasible, these are what I have in mind.
1. GoodYear Wrangler Silent Armor pro grade $962.49 at D&D Tires
2. BF Goodrich AllTerrain KO's $900 and some change at SAMS CLUB
3. Toyo Open Country All Terrain $unknown as of yet, (Les Schwab)
4. BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2'S (NEW STYLE)
5. Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain
6. GoodYear Wrangler M/TR's
Any other Ideas ??? I'd like an all around tire with good winter/offroad/on road charachteristics. I am willing to spend up to about $1,200 for mounting and balancing included, and would be nice to have a on/off road hazzard as well.

not very agressive but good on the street, ice and snow. i have them on my van. awesome tire

these are more agressive and have better reviews than goodyear mtr. although they will suck on ice

285/70/R17 is what I have on the F150. I was going to buy a new set of KM2's and had my mind set on it until I came across a cheap set of practically new Toyo A/T's. Since it will be a 99% street rig I thought it better for mileage. The guy I bought them from said he paid almost $300 per tire, which being from les schwab and being TOYO makes sense to me.
The KM2's from tirerack (pick them up in sparks) runs $211 per tire.

I'd go for those or the MT/R's but the BFG's have a harder tread compoud and typically wear better on the street.

I hate sites that don't let you link directly.
anyway that tire is only like .25inch bigger diameter than the size your looking at.
tyres1 has a warehouse in sparks.
fyi tirerack has moved east of sparks like 18 miles

GET TSLs....OOPS NO I THOUGHT YOU WERE ASKING FOR YOUR OFFROADER!!!!
90% ON ROAD....
I LIKE THE MTRs,AND THEY LAST PRETTY GOOD BUT ARENT VERY GOOD IN THE SNOW AND ICE.
I WOULD PROBABLY GO SOMETHING RATED AS AN ALL-TERRAIN FOR A DAILY DRIVER OVER A MUD-TERRAIN.

the only real all-terrain I would plug might be the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO II's.
I only don't mention them cause they failed me in the last 15% span of there life... Slice right through the lug on the center tread. 3 plugs and it was back in business and held air for the rest of the trip. I wasn't even getting it on a simple dirt road.

The cool thing on the procomp A/t's is the treadware warranty. 40k miles any less and they replace them all. Doesn't cover the Extreme a/t just the regular one, but BigBlue had them on his super gay 35" size and they were pretty beefy for an A/T.

Actually i thought the wheels/tires on that sammy was kinda what he was looking for. All show and no go.
If he really wants performance off road he should get cheap steel wheels from summit and spend the rest of the money on staun beadlocks and KluneV rapid air down valves. Going down to 0-5psi would help offroad more than getting a mud terrain.

Thanks for the clue shitinside, I got the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors, 285/70/17's on the stock rims, $804 out the door at D&D Tire over on 6th, since the Ferntucky store didn't have them in stock. this rig is the "tow" rig and wife's DD. So yeah the steel wheels and TSL's were outta the question. If I had my way it would get the rockwell transplant and 44's :Big Grin: and I'd call it the Rubicon Caddy !!!
