I am extending the wheelbase to approx 98-103"

I added 18" to the frame and will also add 18" to the body.

I will use yj leaves up front and a 3 link rear with QA1 coils.

I plan to buy some brkts from ballistic fab then fab the rest.

It looks silly with the stock suspension in front.

I can already see I will have to comp cut the rear. I will do that after I patch the sides together.

Here are some more pics.

The front is on jack stands set at ride height.

The tires are 33s I had laying around. I plan to run 37s so it looks like a little trimming is gonna be needed.

I also started to patch the quarters panels. In the pics you can see the braces I put on the back side. I expected more warping than I got. I dont plan to do any more bodywork than just smooth it out a little. Its gonna get bent anyway.

I will get pics of the upper link as soon as I get the rod end.

Got the upper welded, painted and mounted. The axle upper link is just tacked in and needs alot of bracing still.

I Got it off the jack stands finally.

The front shackle mounts are made by gen-right and are very nice. I picked them up at T.O.R.

The front shackles are to long. The frame extension up front is only 5 inches. I used 2x3 cause it was free:Big Grin:

I added a 1/2 plate to the drivers side spring mount to level it out.

I think its turning out pretty good.

I got a source for a IFS box so that will be my next step after I finish reinforceing the extension.

I will be working on it sunday and plan to get some flex shots with the fork lift.

I think you need to plate the frame. you've got the frame twisting box bolted into the seam of your frame extention. it looks like it would eventualy tear it apart.

I got the steering arm drilled out to 3/4 today and went to put the drag link in and it was 1/2 to long...My fawkin tape measure must be off a little..It has to go back to the fab cave now.

At least I hadnt put the bung in yet.

Then went to put the tie rod in and I dont have a castle nut that fits....:mad:

I guess it time to go to PnP. I need some calipers also.

Dropped off the rear DS to have lengthend today.

I hate the little shit....It drives me nuts

I would have to move the filler neck to comp cut the pass side. Not sure it would be worth the trouble. Im gonna think about it some more.

what about narrowing the tailgate 4-6" then bringing each rear corner in 2-3" might have to chance the filler tube for the angle but i think it would look pretty nice.

Havnt finished off the ends. Trying to decide if I want to run some tube around the rear wheel well from the bumper to the rocker.

Is there a reason why your rear bumper is so wide?

Its not finished...Im thinkin about running some tube from the bumper to the rocker following the wheelwell. so I dont want to cut the bumper yet.

I have read a couple post about people tearing the ford shock towers off the frame. So I added some gussets and hopefully that will stop the mount from tearing.

good to see this motor go to a good home. xjmoser's build reminds me of mine at the time. all the way down to his location (i lived in Cold Springs for 9 years and this is when this 4.3 found it stuffed into a samurai). I think this 4.3 will be happy back in a samuari, it gave me many years of faithfull running and impressed EVERYONE with its power.

i ran one of the FlowMaster series 40 mufflers & 3" all the way to the back. at idle is sounds like a V8 up to about 1500rpm - i think you'll like it.

you know i always told people when the asked about doing the 4.3 into the sammy that even a 1 to 1.5" body lift would make life A LOT EASIER. you may consider it. you know, you would also be able to get the tcase up higher, almost level with the bottom of the frame.

about our tire discussion today; since you have to buy the rock rings, new tires, and stauns, you should seriously consider buying a new set of wheels in 17". then you will have everything in 17" which is what everyone runs (but me i think), and 17" are what all the "good" tires are available in, and probably will be in the future. once you get going with the 15" it is really a big change in $$$ to convert.

I got a universal harness from summit because the samurai harness went with the old motor.

I want to tie it into the samurai column switches for the lights and blinkers. i got the ignition done only becasue it was marked on the switch.

Ive been having a problem with the battery not charging......Then realized i didnt hook up the alt to the battery...DOH! The motor came with a alt but no wires to hook up and couldnt understand the wiring harness directions.. So after trying for a couple days to figure it out I went and got a 1wire alt. yay! its charging now...




Im getting tired of buying more and more shit for this fucking thing and not getting any use out of it.......should have sold it when i had a buyer!!!!

The two main bars came out spot on, except for being 1.75" to long even though I thought I accounted for using center dimensions. Didnt even have to cut the legs to length, and top of cage came out perfectly level using bendtech pro. Definitely gives me the confidence to get a little creative making tube fenders using one piece of tube.

remember, be safe! to many people have died lately. your rig will be heavier than you think when done. my moto; "if 2 will work, 4 is better, so use 8"
