My camera is broke or I would of taken pics of the drum set-up before dissasemble. I have two jeep CJ manuels that are as usual little to no help. Searched the internet last night for an hour or so and no real help so I need yours.

Where does the e-brake attach too inside the drum on my amc 20? I think I can get the rest of the set-up but have no idea what it attaches to on the brake assembly.

Thanks bro, got a quick answer on jeep forum and got it all back together. Just could remember how to attach it to that.

Now my new problem is that the brake drums wont fit over the brake shoes:14: The brake shoes are new, and I just had the drums turned. Its getting to late so I will reassess tomorrow when Im not so tired.

Ape any suggestions on that problem would be very very helpfull:Big Grin:

I figured it had something to do with that, but how do I adjust it? Tried farting around with it for a moment but its getting to damn late and went hunting all day.

How do you adjust it with the drums being fully assembled?

look on the back of the drum assembly. there should be little oval punch out things. punch that out. use a screw driver to turn the screw until you can fit the brake drum over the pads again.

Not sure what the oval punch out thing is? Here is a link to a pic of an amc 20 drum brake assembly.

Now is it the adjuster deal that has the adjuster spring and adjuster cable that goes to it? Lift that up off the washer looking thing and spin the washer looking thing in to gain more clearance for the drum?

Also, how snug should the brake drums be on the shoes? Or should they not be touching at all until brakes are applied?

thats a front view.. look in from the back( the diff side) for the oval punch hole. the adjuster is the thing that looks like a star with threads coming off it. its at the bottom.

for how tight you want it(not completely sure here) but once you get the drum back on tighten it up until there is a slight drag on it. someone should chime in soon on this part

i think the adjusting screw should be right hand thread.

i think the adjusting screw should be right hand thread.

So does that mean its reversed thread? Lefty tighty, righty loosen?

Drum brakes are all back together now. Broke the rear driver side break line. Went to Kragen and got a metric size and not a 3/8. That cant be returned. Kragen sucks for parts. They didnt have anything to help measure my thread there and I didnt have any fine thread nuts at home to use for mock up at the store.

Napa said they can take care of me and have the stuff to measure to insure I get the right part. Now are they open on sundays in Reno?

That would be great L.D. Will give you a call in the morning as Im going to need more than the brakes looked at.

I got the brakes all assembled and put the passenger tire on. Everything was working fine or so it seemed. Then I added the drum to the other side and now when I spin the axles the lockrite will not stay engaged.

The lockrite on the driver side is popping in and out when the axle is turned both front and backwards. I have no idea on how to solve this problem. Any ideas from the crowd?

I big thanks to L.D. for coming over this afternoon and helping me get everything dialed in. Sure is nice when you have the proper tools to work on stuff. Gotta go out and fill the diff up with some 80/90 and take it for a quick spin.

Im going to convert the rear 70 to discs as those drums on there probably weigh a 100 lbs a piece. And they are massive as well.

And i hear ya on the fumes in enclosed garages. Brake cleaner:eek:
