Is anyone willing to bend a "simple" cage for me, it would be going in a CJ7. I was thinking something along the lines of the MORE style, maybe slightly different. I've learned to weld, but haven't been able to purchase a bender yet. Thanks :Big Grin:

ARE YOU JUST WANTING TO ADD A FRONT SECTION TO YOUR STOCK ROLL BAR???IM SURE I COULD DO SOMETHING A WHOLE LOT NICER THAN THE M.O.R.E CAGE....THAT ONE IS PRETTY BASIC.
PLUS ARE YOU JUST WANTING TO TIE IT INTO THE TUB OR THE FRAME???TUBE SIZE AND GRADE(DOM OR HREW)???

For now, i'd like to just add to the OE back half...but I am going to tie it to the frame, but with that I want to add a harness bar. I wouldn't mind it being a little more one-off than the MORE kit, with grab handles, and spreader bars, but don't think i want anything too special. I would guess 1.75" hrew...unless DOM would be a better choice? (i would need some advise on that along with the size of tube.)

I THINK I COULD ADD A FRONT SECTION KINDA LIKE THE ONE IN THE GREEN YJ....

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c233/rockape81/100_0222.jpg
EXCEPT SINCE THE YJ UPPER SECTION IS ONE PIECE AND YOUR ORIGINAL ROLL BAR ARE DIFFERENT, THE SIDE TUBES WILL NEED A 30 OR 45 DEGREE BEND WHERE THEY ATTACH TO YOU ORIGINAL ROLL BAR TO LOOK GOOD.
HARD OR SOFT TOP???
I PREFER DOM TUBE OVER HREW.
AND TUBE DIAMETER.....I HAVE DIES TO DO 1.5 1.75 AND 2.0.YOUR STOCK ROLL BAR IS 2 INCH.
I DID MY FIRST CJ5 IN 2 INCH BUT WITH A HOOP UP BY THE DASH....
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c233/rockape81/100_0421.jpg
WE COULD DO IT THAT WAY ALSO.....
AS FAR AS PRICE I DONT THINK I CAN BE AS CHEAP AT THE M.O.R.E CAGE.CALL ME AT THE SHOP AND YOU CAN COME BY THE HOUSE AND DISCUSS ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO DO IT AND PRICE.

I like the YJ's spreader bars...so maybe something in that style...I'll try to come by the shop today or tomorrow, I need to schedule the GFs car for some service anyways. I think I am leaning towards 1.75 or 1.5 so its not as massive...

$500 from where ??? The best i'm finding is $429 (bender/stand/handle etc) 50-bendtech, plus a die..http://www.tricktools.com/model_3_bender.htm...and thats without the $50-99 for a notcher.
I could swear i found a bender with crap and a die for $500 prior but don't know where anylonger...

So I am going with this.... http://www.pro-tools.com/105.htm ... as the package, and the 1.75 die, but was wondering if anyone else has the 105? OR if the dies are interchangable with the JD2s?
any thoughts....am i going to regret getting this one as opposed to any other? I can't due the hydro just yet, but hopefully in a year or so I can convert it. :Big Grin: ...

I THINK ITS AS GOOD A MACHINE AS ANY BUT I DONT KNOW IF THE DIES ARE INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THE JD2 OR THE M-TECH(THOSE TWO ARE INTERCHANGEABLE FOR SURE THAT I KNOW...).IM SURE IT WOULD BE THE SAME TO CONVERT TO FULL HYDRO WHE N THE TIME COMES!!!!

no the dies are not interchange able especially if you get the protools 105 hd. the center pin is bigger i have tried. but i have the 105 hd and i love it. going to make it hydro in a bout a week or two.

that is the bender i bought (Pro-Tools). I put the air over bottle jack on mine with my own brackets. it's a little slow, AND uses a decent amount of air for 90 degree bends or more. but for a home fab shop it works great and it was cheap. I WOULD like a way to more acuarately measure angles and compensate for spring back to make duplication easier. the degree ring and wire needle is kinda of a joke. the needle bends to easy taking it out of calibration. i tend to use a home-grown "angle-O-finder" i made for duplication.
with the increasing cost of material and generally using DOM and sometimes 4130 i would like to step up to Bend-Tech Pro to minimize "screw-ups", AND waste by cutting your initial lengths too long.
Maybe Rockape can give me the 5 minute leason as well?

Yeah Bend-tech pro is the shit!!!I highly recommend it if you plan on doing complete cages or chassis on a regular or semi regular basis!!!I still have to come up with a rough idea on paper though, because it doesnt give you any sizes to start with....meaning you need to know how much room you need for everything......but once you have it,it is really easy to tweak, add or remove tubes and get to look at your work before one piece of tube is bent(or wasted...).Like I have said before the green yj,dodge truggy and Lo-Budget buggy were alll done with bend tech pro!!!The black cj5,and the two seat Zuk hooded buggy were done on bend-tech EZ.....

Sorry it took so long.
the ram was from Harbor Freight if i remember right, about $80. I just welded the body of the ram directly to the square tube witout even taking it apart. you have to reset the stroke once for 90 degree bends and twice beyond that, but the jack handle works great to release it, and as a leverage bar to push the ram closed. a little slow, but for a recreational fabricator its great, cheap, and much easier on your back muscles. I have noticed that keeping the ram up and the air over down, even when transporting it helps keep air out of the oil. A friend of mine and i are partners in the bender and occasionally it acts "funny" after bouncing around in the back of your truck between houses.
