Opened up the diff cover to find that the guy who sold these axles was not bull shitting about being completely rebuilt. This is the 4.56 gears and some kind of locker. He said it was a detroit but it looks like some kind of posi which I wasnt super stoked about.

B2Krawler seems to think it was a dully axle due to long studs. Im not sure on how to tell. Also, its going to be a really wide rear at a wms of 73". So going to have to run some small back spacing rims.
Now who knows where to look for disc brake conversion kits?
Also, if this is a dully rear do I need to get a new spindle housing on each side to retain a normal dana 70 axle?
Lastly, can anybody identify the locker setup in the pictures above?
And I still have some grinding to do on the pumpkin. After 3 sanding discs my hands were pretty tired.

for a disc brake conversion.. go look in the vendor section of pirate. also for the locker.. look up the numbers on the internet and see if you can come up with something. maybe even call TOR and ask them if they could look up the S/N or the P/N.

A guy on pirate confirmed it was a detroit. And I will look into the links you provided for disc brake kits. I may have found one on Ruff Country for $50 that another guy on pirate said he is using.

Isn't the disc break conversion kit just the brackets to weld on to hold the calipers? Then you source out some 3/4 ton discs and calipers to go along with it....
NVM the link jeeper posted pretty much covers it all for ya! :Big Grin:

The build will begin when I get the disc brakes and then get it installed under my rig. Sat would be fun, but looks like Im headed out on a road trip tomorrow to Humbolt then on up into Oregon and not too sure from there. Be back in a week or two.
Then I will get the front axle done and get some leaf packs made and order a few more parts to get it under the rig at least for now.

Here she is all finished up and ready for install.
The axle infront of mine is a 14 bolt for comparison. Mines much wider.

Calipars and disc brakes
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/tahoewheelers/dana703.jpg
And this bastard isnt light, however, you can move it pretty easy with a tractor.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/tahoewheelers/dana701.jpg
And after that was all finished up, I helped Shawn put Brians buggy back together after we painted the cage the weekend before.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/tahoewheelers/briansbuggy.jpg
Then we moved the dana 60 a bit closer to the shop so I can start work on that soon.

Well he doesnt have it sitting in his own shop like you do ape, and being he can only get up a few days a month to work on it Brian and I decided that the primer looked good enough and that he should be more focused on getting his rig running before he paints it all.
The 70 wms is 73", the 14 bolt is something like 68"-69". I plan on running a 5.5" backspacing rim on the back for sure and possibly 3.5" up front or run wheel spacers.

so he tears it down to paint it twice instead of once????

Thats what I was trying to say!!!It only would have taken a couple hours more to spray it with some color that will actually seal the metal instead of porus primer, that will eventually still rust!!!!
Im not bashing the buggy, just two hours saved are 15 hours to redo it again!!
And I would probably fix your width problem with wheel back space(if you havent bought yet...) instead of spacers.....
Custom leafs???Just put some waggy 7 leak packs or 44044 ranchos....custom is $$$

Thats the color he is running it for now. We call it Mr. Hanky after the turd on south park. He has skins and the hood will be a green of some sort. Should look good.

I havent bought the rims yet, but thats probably what I will do instead of spacers. As far as spring packs go, I may just build some out of what Shawn has laying around at his house. If not Wixjp has a parts waggy that I may help myself to:wink:
