i run dual toyota cases behind me 4.3 with a 4L60E. only bad thing is not being able to shift unless i turn it off, which kind of sucks. its also long. i think i would run a dana 300 with the 4:1.
would a regular toyota rear axle work instead of having to center the one you have now?

went with the 300 , but hear lots of good with 203/205 doubler but it is so dam long and heavy . not a toy guy so couldnt tell ya a thing bout them cases . with the 300 get gears instead of chain the abilty to cheaply do twin sticks and the upgrade as you go option . and it is shorter then most wich i think is a concern in a fj as much as it is in a heep . just my .02

I like my dana 300 and plan on twin-sticking it and clocking it when I swap the axles. Probably one of the best stock transfer cases on the market.

stock toy case with 4.7gears.
gears are $395 ish depending on where you get them from and dont know how much a case is going for
dana300 are going for $100-200?
4:1 gears are going to be $600-700ish depends on type
toyota dual cases kit is 2 toyota cases then $300ish for the adapter and its getting longer.

ON A BUDGET...I WOULD GO SINGLE TOY WITH 4.7s OR DUAL WITH BOTH STOCK OR 4.7 REAR.....
DANA 300s ARE $$$ ONCE YOU BUY THE 4:1 GEARS AND HEAVY DUTY OUTPUTS.....AND SOME THROTTLE JOCKEYS HAVE BEEN BLOWING UP THE HOUSONGS....BY THE TIME YOU BUILD AN ULTIMATE 300 YOU COULD HAVE BOUGHT A TWO SPEED STAK OR ATLAS!!!
203/205....NOTHING IS CHEAP ABOUT THOSE....THROTTLE TOLD ME HE HAD $2K TIED UP IN THE ONE IN THE TRUGGY...ADAPTER,MACHINE WORK,FINDING CASES,REBUILDING CASES,SHIFTERS!!!AND IT STILL IS ONLY 4:1 IN LOW LOW!!!:frown:
NOW THE TWO SPEED STAK AND ATLAS ARE PRETTY BULLETPROOF BUT WILL COST YOU!!!
NOW IF YOU WANTED TO STAY STICK.....I HAPPEN TO KNOW WHERE THERE IS A NV4500/ADAPTER/SINGLE TOY CASE FOR SALE!!!!

on the cruzer thirds the pinion will twist off easyly. the truck thirds are the stronger ones.

i could be wrong thats just what ive heard, i know the pinion is weak on the course spline pinion, you can still break a 30 spline but all depends on how you drive:Big Grin:, and yes rockape i have really wanted to buy that tranny from you i just dont ahve the 1300 sitting around or i would!!

You'll run out of wheel base eventually. You can always do a homebrew square tube front shaft, unless you need 4WD on the highway for some reason, but a double cardon shaft for the rear gets pricey fast.

If you go with the Toy cases, you definately want to go to the 23 spl. With your motor, I'd go to a 203/205. It would be overkill, but when you put the BBC in it would handle it. :Big Grin:

not looking to put a BBC in it if i did it would already be in there by now. i would go 203 205 but thats really out of my buget. im looking at getting a th350 with toyota case already on it from smash, problem is its a 21 spline

Poor Boy is correct about the thirds since they are ~9.25" versus mini 8". The pre '78 coarse spline pinions are notorious for blowing but since Poorboy has an aftermarket R&P it is most likely the later model fine spline.

POORBOY DONT FORGET IF YOU DO A DANA 300 YOU WILL NEED TO DO THE 32 SPLINE OUTPUTS AND THAT CAN LEAD TO MONEY TOO SO WEIGHT IT OUT :Big Grin: AND I HAVE READ TONS ABOUT GEARS BREAKING AND CASES SPLITTING. I HAVE ONE AND IM WILLING TO BREAK IT. AND I HAVE A 32 SPLINE INPUTS AND OUTPUTS

I DID THE 32 SPLINES INPUT AND OUTPUT ON MINE AND THEN DID THE BETTER INTER. SHAFT AND HAD THE GEARS CRYO'D JUST FOR FUN. WHILE I HAD IT ALL APART I DEBURRED THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE JUST TO MAKE SURE I HAD NO SHARP EDGES I THOUGHT ABOUT SHOTPEENING THE CASE BUT LOST INTEREST. IM SURE I WILL BREAK IT BUT ITS ALL I HAVE RIGHT NOW SO FUCK IT CARNAGE IS COOL :Big Grin:

If the adapter your getting is AA, you should be able to upgrade the coupling to 23 spline (pn 52-6201 for the trans adapter), then get the 23 spl input.
I still think you should go BBC :Big Grin:
