as per scouring pirate... there is a small group from the reno/tahoe area going there at the beginning of april... and the tinbenders jamboree is going to be on the 25-ish.

joe the toe said that there is supposed to be a pirate run down there also around the 11th.



in the midst of high diesel prices and easter coming too early in the season this year, i opted out of moab, and am now itching(someone get me bengay!!!!!) for a good 3 or 4 day hardcore wheeling excursion.

i would really like to go to the hammers. since its only 8 hours away instead of moabs 12-14 hours away, it might be alittle more legitimate this year... plus amidst its pending closure, it may be VERY worth being able to hit it up before the COMMIE LAND CLOSING BASTARDS CLOSE IT TOO!!

looking for people down to go. i am willing to tow 2 rigs there and split gas if someone can find or has access to a 2 car trailer. since i have a big 4 door dually, towing that much people and junk should be no issue.

BOY OH BOY! THE HAMMERS ARE SICK! ITS PRETTY MUCH A FREE FOR ALL DOWN THERE! We just rolled back into town from a 11 hour drive home. Pretty wore out, was really warm down there and not much shade. We ran a shit load of hard core trails both day and night. No major problems with the rigs. Brian broke his rear drive line flange last night with a 3 foot bump:eek: B2 had to replace several dana 44 ujoints each morning but no broken shafts and re-arranged his body pretty good. I only put one minor dent in it.

We have a shit load of video and pics that we will have to put up later in the week.

What sucks is we didnt get any video of Bryan D's rig totally getting it in the sand dunes with the nitrous blips!!!!! Talk about a multi functional rig, that ride on the dunes was some serious fun!

Ape, your single seater would have lots of fun down there. With rear steer you would be able to get some of the nasty lines. Talked to one of the zombies who ran Full Of Hate in his single seater and he said it was sick!

i wouldn't say we beat our rigs. out of 5 rigs the only carnage was Shawn babying his front 44 with a few "in camp fixes", Brian's rear driveline on backdoor the last night (and that was just because it was the last day). I lost a battery and blew my air cooler line - I had to open my cooler for beers by hand the last night - CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!! Besides your average rock-rash it was very little carnage. A trip to upper bronco will make your rig look MUCH WORSE than 3 days at the hammers. but that's not saying that the hammers is easier, IT'S JUST DIFFERENT.

Just a quick thank you to all who went on the trip for making that one of the funnest wheeling adventures I've ever been on. Very minor carnage or wrenching, no repairs on the trail, awesome weather, everyone fully getting it at one time or another, and nobody got hurt. Oh yeah, and throw in some FAST desert running between trails.

next year I'm even going to bring my spare elect fan for those f#$%ing bomb craters you come upon unexpectedly!!

great trip, definately the most difficult wheeling I have done, im ready for more. I pretty much went there with the intentions of destroying my body, i got close, Ill finish it off this summer, then go buggy.
I have dial up, so i cant load many pics, but I gave all the still shots to quief. I cant download the video, my laptop is too old, need 2gigs of ram, lots of free space, yada yada, Im in the market for a new one. I probably have about 20gigs of video.

one of the best parts is when Brian and i were racing across the desert, just hauling ass, side by side, hitting bumps, and whoops. I think I scared SV

Another favorite is coming up the climb on the knife edge ridge at the end of jack- I thought I was moving pretty good until the repeated nerfings from the bronco:eek: SV shot video from B2's passenger seat: all you see is rocks, then sky, then rocks, then sky, then wham the rear of the cruiser, then sky, then rocks, then the back of the cruiser again- all you hear is the 4.0 wound out and B2 yelling "get that POS out of my way"!!! then at the end you see the exposure of falling to either side

I'm trying to figure out the trails we did, so BrianD. or anyone elsed chime in:

wed nite: we started out on backdoor with only briand making both ledges. B2 made the first and was denied on the second, I almost rolled on the first obstacle then was denied on the first waterfall (my limited slip up front was extremely limited) SV and I were sitting at the base of the first waterfall listening to brian hard on the throttle bouncing around on the second waterfall, B2 bouncing around on the first, thinking " this sure ain't the rubicon!!"

thursday: Started the day off by welding the front 60 on my rig ( lockers f&r MANDATORY here for sure) then we hooked up with Harold and matt and off to run sledgehammer. About halfway up sledge we see this jeep come up behind us using lots of wheel spin to crawl everything--enter hawaii 5-0 running 25 psi in all 4 tires:eek: After airing him down, we were back on track.
next was tackhammer, then jackhammer, then a night run I believe on claw.

Friday: Sunbonnet/hells gate and highway 20- this was the hardest set of trails I've ever run!!! sweet day getting all 5 rigs thru with no winch work.

Saturday: We get a late start after piecing together some 44 shafts and joints for B2, tightening crap on my rig, and switching out a battery for Brian. We run wreckingball and are stuck behind a slow group having problems. We end up turning around near the top after waiting for the group who is blocking the crux ledge having winching problems. These guys didn't want to listen to any suggestions and were being total asshats, so we just went back down. Brian D rolled pulling a 180 front dig and almost drove out of it!! We quickly righted him and were back on our way. Sat nite we went back to backdoor for redemption and some heavyfoot carnage. B2 reworked his A pillar on the way up to the first waterfall, and then put the hammer down on the first climb: he almost made it, but ended hung up on the top looking at a 10 foot fall and opted to winch up from there. BrianD. made both walls again (fawker) I eventually made the first wall after repeatedly bouncing all 4s high in the air before I got the rig to bump over the fisrt ledge. I had to stay in it for a while, showering the jeeps who came to watch behind me, and then continued to the 2nd ledge where I held it to the floor after I got both front tires up. The rig hopped voilently into the air and snapped the rear cv when I slipped off the ledge still pegged.

I'm sure I missed some of the trails we did, as it all kind of blends toghter for me--but man that shit was fun.

It was almost flat where you rolled. I think we were all pissed at the guys blocking the trail, and when you went to turn around with the fastburn front dig you came around and fell off the side of the trail!!! Oh well, someone had to roll this trip, way to step up

FOH cant be done in any of the rigs we had there. Thats rockape country there. I think ape would be more happy with his two seater down there so he can have someone to B.S. with. Single seater would be fun though down there.

And I was totally bummed on Wrecking Ball, wanted to complete at least one entire trail of driving (even though we pretty much finished it). However, Shawn was very gratefull and let me get some good wheeling in everyday and didnt bitch when I put the first dent on his rig:Big Grin:

And wheelin B2's rig out there with a dana 44 front calls for some pretty clean wheelin for the most part. Had to finess some of the lines the other guys hammered through. His shit will be sick next time with a 609 like Bryan's!

B2's was for pulling into the dirt road when we first got there and hitting the colvert at 35mph with a double loaded trailer and loosing the trailer with both rigs on it:eek:

Conolmustards is for not putting his rig in park on the trail and left in nuetral. B2 reversed into conol's rig who was empty and in neutral, next thing I know conol's rig is going down hill back wards in a fast way. Probably went 50 feet or more down some gnarly section towards the nice mogged tj. Luckily it turned in driver right before that rig and nothing happened.

What really amazed me after seeing these trails firsthand was the speed the guys in KOH were running these trails. It took us hours to get up sledge (having the slow group in front of us didn't help either), and JR was doing the whole trail in 6 or 8 minutes!!!!!!

the new rear axle is the shit,love the 40 spline mosers, really allowed me to hammer it going up the ledges, despite what was said earlier, I hammered a HP44 pretty hard, my trick to not breaking it was that i welded all the caps, and never got on it with the wheels turned hard. I went through 3 u-joints.

hopefully I will have the front spider in for the fall run.

SV is lucky we didnt take the pic 3 sec earlier, we had contact!!!!



Hammers really puts trail like the con and fordyce in perspective, the entire trail system is one little sluice, but even harder
