Got a new (to me) truck yesterday. 03 3500 Dogde. My 02 was still running good just getting up to 300,000 miles and we passed it down to our head foreman since I was puting close to 250 miles a day on it and he will only be putting on about 20 miles/day.
This one has 83,000 miles got it for $19K. Figured if we got a new one in two years it would over 90,000 miles on it and we would still owe way over $20,000 on it.

Is it the 03 H.O. Motor? 6 spd? Auto?
19k is a hell of a deal, hopefully with $5 a gallon diesel the retail on these things will plummet and I can get one for a decent price!

Dont think its the H.O. Its an auto, 4 speed. 305hp at 2500rpm. Got it at reno dodge, they were asking 25k. Offered them 19k they didnt even flinch just jumped at it and said "you got it! lets go inside" They've had it there for 5 months...
Even at 5 bucks a gallon I would still rather drive a diesel. My 02 got about 17 mpg. My Father n Law's 06 gets 19mpg. Driving a gas 3/4 or 1 ton doesnt even come close.

Guess you should've low-balled them more! haha, hindsight is....
For sure the diesel 3/4 or 1ton gasser is worthless, but I get like 16.5 in my half ton gasser, so it's still cheaper for me in the short term until I have a need for a full on tow-rig.

on the overhead my ctd gets 23-24 mpg, but that is at 65-67 mph. anything over 72 and the mileage goes down to 17-19 mpg. and those are unloaded not towing. and it now is just under 49K miles. it's an '05 Heavy Duty with 325/610 4 spd auto and 3.73's with 285/70/17's Good year silent armors.

Haven't had the chance to tow anything worth while, weight wise, a buddy of mine with the same exact set up towed his 38' fifth wheel and he got 10-13 mpg  and that was from Reno to OKC, Oklahoma. thats driving at 60 mph. I think if I could program it/chip it it might get a little bit better mileage. The towing it has done is a friends consessions stand (real real heavy) and it was only from his house in Fallon to sand mountain, roughly 45 +/- miles each way, and it only used 1/4 tank if that (but it's all flat towing no mountains, and I was told that it pulled like there was nothing behind it. 9Yeah what the hell am I doing with a tow rig without using it ??? gonna need to buy a trailer here shortly so I can trailer my junk when I finally swap teh axles under it...:gapteeth: (Just buying ahead of time...)

Ya. I know. Before I bought the Ford I used my dad's 05 dodge 5.9 auto, with 70,000 mi. I couldn't believe how gutless it felt compared to my 12v. I know it had to be the auto. Totally swayed me away from an auto in the towrig.

I don't think i could own anything but a duramax with the allison trans after working on cummins motors, and none of them having an auto comparible to GM's allison. Its pretty much bullet proof if you don't tune the truck up to much then you gota get a built trans like mine for it to be bullet proof again.

OK, I sold the FORD and got a Cummins. Its a 07 5.9, the last of the non- emission motors. I got a great deal on it, and went from 10 mpg to 19.2 on the first tank. Stay tunned for the build up. :Big Grin:

If I got a diesel a 5th wheel wouldn't be far behind either, unless the buggy was done first.

And this basically a bone stock truck.
No tunner
just exhaust and intake and the flat bed
other than a sterio to keep me saine, the truck is the same as the day it came out of the factory.
It is an 05
Strongly recomend you stay away from the 02-04 D-Max, they are garbage. You will replace the injectors every 15k miles, that gets expensive, I think the injectors are close to $300 a piece!

Wasnt sure if I wanted the "ranch" look but I figured it would be more functional for what I do for work and since I basically live on a ranch...what the hell. And I dont think this one will crumple as easy. Now with the new bed and all the money just put into fixing the front end its new again.

The camper will still fit, I might have to put it on 2x4s'. It will have a ton of room around the bed to store more crap and there is tie downs for on the bed that will hold the camper.

The Bradfords are tuff
I have beating the shit out of mine for a couple of three years now and I havnt even dented it. The powder coating has been flaking off and the bed is starting to rust a bit. I plan to Rhino Line it this year.
Beyond that, great bed.
I go through a lot of lights though. Some of the lights on my bed are the orginals. Others, I have had to replace more than once.
