Just another build, nothing too fancy and its all been done before.

Started with a 1977 International Terra. Basicly a ScoutII stretched 18". Blown Borge Warner tranny, strong 304 V8.

So far:

Swapped the POS 3 speed BW for a T-19 wide ratio 4 speed.

Sprung over on 4" leaves, beefier shackels/hardware. New bushings springs and frame, some frame reinforcements.

Ditched the D44s for a HD44 front fully built with alloys/locker/5:13s. Rear matches front but in D60, all the crap to build it like the front is in boxes in the garage except no locker. I went full spool instead.

Sitting on 38s now, can go to 40". I have a set of 38x12.5 bias 95% that will replace the 14.5" wides unless somebody wants to trade me wide for skinny tires. Just need new wheels since my 15x12 would look funny with a 12.5" tire

Pulled my power steering out and drilled/tapped for hyro assist. Took two boxes since one was blown up . Mounted my new waggy pitman arm, ram, plumbed everything Sat, built a mount and ran it. Had to plate the frame too since I was there.

Pics are 2 wheel drive on my homemade driveshaft and no brakes. Just trying to flex it out for brakeline measurements.

Left:
Build rear
Rear driveshaft
Front driveshaft from square stock w/ offset joint.
Brakelines.
Cage.

Here are the flexing pics. The springs are stiff, I may pull a leaf out but my motor is a boat anchor so mayb enot. Need to flex it more and see.

I bought a press then this shit happened:

Sat: Put together my new press, re-cleaned the D60, changed the pinion bearing, and inspected my new Yukon 5:13s and pressed the shims and bearing on. Then when I istalled the pionon and yoke I threaded the NEW nut on the pinion about 1/2 way and began to tighten it.

Thats how far I got into my gear install before it all went to shit

Even though I inspected the R&P I didnt inspect the Yukon Master install kit's NEW lock nut. So I tried to suck it together with the impact and about 1 second after the locknut chewed up the top most threads of the pinion. I think the locking portion of the damn nut was damaged since I threaded it 1/2 way by hand with no issue then it ate it. I tried to grind off the top threads a bit and get my second new nut on but that wouldnt thread for shit.

I have to call Yukon today and see if they are going to waranty or tell me to eat shit I hope so everything was new new new. I also don't want to go through Schafer's Offroad whom I bought them through after they tried to screw me on them. So hopefuly Yukon/Randy's will take care of me. OR I may be pimping for another set of D60 5:13's

Randy's tech people have basicly told me fuck you so if my machinist cant hook me up I'm going to get a new R&P and probobly get a hand or pay somebody to do it.

You do gear by chance Bro?:Big Grin:

That sucks man. Yeah good luck with anything from Shaffers shop. Cant believe people even buy shit there still. Especially when you can get it directly from Randys in two days.

Randys is usually pretty good, but sounds like it might be your bad and they wont warrenty that.

Get that damn thing going already.

When was the last time you bought something from either of those two places? Don't talk shit if you have nothing to talk shit about

Anyway I hope Randy's steps up about the pinion and nut, but I don't see how the locking portion of the nut can fawk up the threads?

I can talk all the shit I want as I have had plenty of friends burnt from that establishment. So fuck yourself fag. And with Randys I have a vendor account and can get the same deal Shaffer does. So once again eat a dick.

Well Schaffer's did try to hose me when I bought the gearset, spool, and master install kit about 10 months ago from them.

They gave me a quote then when the stuff came in they charged me about an extra $60 for all kinds of stuff. The order also took over a month instead of the 3-4 days I was quoted. I was forced to be an ass to get them to honor the quote.

That being said most of those workers are canned and the help I got this time from Dave was decent. It still took too long for something that is required to be on file however.

The only thing that I can guess happened with the gear/locknut is that something in the top 50% of the locknut was fucked. The pinon threads were clean and the locknut easily threaded about 50% down. The locknut got about 75% on before I saw shavings and backed the nut off. Only the top 3-4 threads were damaged and the top of the locknut was screwed.

So what else could it have been?

Sure the thread was right?

The gearset had some mostly solid grease on it from manufacturing, I cleaned all that I could see of it off. I also visualy inspected it before installing it.

Long overdue update.

So after 3 different gear builders 1 finaly came through.

I got the rear re-assembled since it came back in pieces , cleaned painted, found more diff cover bolts they guy said I didnt give him. I gave him 2 master kits and I think he thought one was for somebody else and they are in there. Thats why I marked the boxes 1 of 4 etc. but I am happy I just need to call him and get my other parts back.

Welded up a rear diff guard until I spend $$ on a nice roughstuff one and got it all in.

Mounted my new 38s on my new wheels, replaced the hub and inner/short shaft axle in the front I snapped with my trail spare. I have a fancy Chromo set but found out I'm missing U-joint pieces for it.

But for now I have left:

Rear hardlines. I have these just need to put them in and make them neat, may add some protection too.

Cage: I have 40' of tube and will be calling you Darren so we can finaly start this! Rockape I'll hit you up next week or the week after when I have cash for another 40' or so.

Seat: I am going to reupholster the bench I have next week I hope.

Rear driveshaft. going to build a junkyard one for now.

Thats it...scary thought I'm this close finaly!

DONT WORRY THEY SEEM ALOT MORE FUN AGAIN WHEN YA CAN TAKE IT OUT EVEN FOR A RIP UP AND DOWN THE BLOCK!!!!I REALLY ENJOY BUILDING RIGS BUT AM ALSO HAPPY WHEN THEY ARE DONE!!!!

Rear driveshaft is done.

I had to pull the new wheels off the front and put the rollers back on...need some 8 lug wheel spacers to clear the brakes  One of my new brake lines has started to leak in the crimp on end so I'll have Reno clutch and Brake re-make it.

I still got to wheel it out at the place a bit. I put it in 2x4 and drove 5-6 laps around the pasture easily to make sure the new gears and everything got lubed. Then I did 2 more laps ripping it up...damn I need shocks :Big Grin:

After that I started twisting it in the ditches...yup need to trim a bit since this thing is going to flex. Then the climbed a couple hills like a champ.

So overall a few issues still but I may be able to take it out in a week or two for its first mild trail run.
