I have two slow leaks on my 35" bfg mud terrains. I pulled them off the other day to double check for anything penetrating the tires and they look fine. I have seen them leak from the rim from mud and snow wheelin on others rigs. And mine have been leaking since the last few snow runs I was on.

So how can I clean the rim and reseat the tire on the rim with out taking it to a shop?

Deflate them, use some muscle and break both beads, clean the wheel and tire beads, reinflate :Big Grin:

Never done this before. How do you brake the bead?

Put your knee right next to the bead, bounce up, and come down with all your weight on your knee. If you have good aim you can use a sledge hammer, just don't hit your rim

Once you have a little gap spray a little soapy water around the bead and it will help. When you go to re-seat the bead coat the rim and wheels beads with some soapy water also. Make the bead re-seat a little easier.

GOT A HIGH LIFT???PUT IT ON THE EDGE AND THE OTHER PART ON YOUR RIM....JACK IT UP...THE WEIGHT OF THE RIG IS MUCH BETTER THAN YOUR KNEE...(DOES THAT REALLY WORK???I DONT THINK SO!!!:Big Grin:)

Do I need to deflate the tire first? Also, do I place the hi lift on the tire or rim? On the bead or next to it?

DEFLATE THE TIRES...PUT THE JACK FOOT AS CLOSE TO THE RIM AS POSSIBLE!!!!

Lay the tire flat on the ground.
Pull the valve stem core to release all the air.
Put Hi lift on top of tire.
Base of the jack as close to the tire bead as possible.
Yes, on the tire.
Place the top of the hi lift on frame or bumper.
Start jacking.
The base of the jack will push the tire off the bead.
Turn tire 90 degrees and break that section.
Continue until that side is broke.
Flip tire and repeat until that bead is broken.
You can now move the tire freely from the wheel.
Find accumulated crap and clean it up.

Re seat with a ratchet strap and some air. Leave the valve stem core out until the bead is reset by the air. Install core and inflate to PSI.

Or use starter fluid and a spark..... Faster and more fun.:ohyes:

Just got one of the beads off of a spare that I need to swap rims with. I for some reason was thinking the bead was the weight:rolleyes:

I've helped re-seat a few tires on the trail so hopefully that will go smooth.

Thanks for the help

Got both tires done. The one had a bunch of sand and small rocks, the other had a shit load of mud caked around the inner rim.

High lifted on the rocker a bit much one time and the rear axle came off the jack stand and spit the high lift out. Luckily the rig went forward a few inches and the jack stand caught my gas tank:eek: So I chalked the tires and was bit more careful after that.
