You need the rear disconnect for front digs. twin stick only gives you control of 4-2 and H-L

the disconnect is coming from the motorhome chonra. they have been using them in the drivelines of the tow'd vehicles for many years. it's only in the last few years that the off road community has found a use for them.

With the twin stick you should still be able to take the rear out and just power the front wheels which could be helpful.

So you cant change out from just front wheel drive or rear wheel drive on a toy case? Why not?

FRONT DIG CAPABILITIES :Big Grin:
ariganal application, disconect rear axle from trans. for flat tow behind your motorhome.

ah yes but I still don't know what front dig is...unless its like that one time at sand mountain my buddy and I thought we'd be smart and lock the front brake on his 3 wheeler and use it to dig the firepit...which worked good :Big Grin:

a front dig is when you disconect, or disengage the rear axle, lock-up the rear wheels, and use the front axle to power a sharp turn, or to drag the front-end over.

ah i see...so wouldn't a turn brake work better if a guy was runnign a selectable rear locker?

Yeah it would.

A lot of hill climb buggy guys run open rear diffs. When you engage the cutting brake it tells the diff that tire has a bunch of traction while the opposite tire doesn't. As a good open diffential it sends all the power to the tire with the least amount of traction, allowing you to make a very tight turn.

So if I re-wire my ARB lockers to work independently I could do something like a front dig?
Right now I can't engage the front unless the rear is engaged. I could re-wire that in five minutes.

Not that I need to do that maneuver but it's nice to know you can.:Big Grin:

The open differential technique works if you have cutting brakes.

If you have an Atlas, or some other T-case that allows you disconnect the rear drive shaft, you don't need selectable lockers.
