MR.ROCKAPE
May 17th, 2008, 04:14 PM
SINCE MY FIRST COMP WAS A HELL OF A LEARNING EXPERIENCE THERE IS GONNA BE SOME MORE CHANGES TO THE BUGGY AS WELL AS UPGRADES!!!

UPGRADES...
-REAR ARB FROM TRENT FAB WHO WENT OUTTA THEIR WAY TO FIND ME ONE SINCE EVERYONE ELSE TOLD ME THEY ARE ON BACK-ORDER....BIG THANKS TO THEM!!!(I WILL TAKE PICS FOR A TECH ARTICLE ON THIS!!!)

-REAR CUTTING BRAKES,CNC BRAND DUAL HANDLES TO COMPLEMENT THE ARB AND HAVE THE ABILITY TO DRAG ONE OR BOTH REAR WHEELS TO AID IN TURNING THE BEAST!!!(ALSO LOOK FOR A TECH ARTICLE ON THIS....:Big Grin:)

-NEW BELLY SKID WITH ADDED PROTECTION AND A PIECE OF 3/16THS STEEL TO BACK IT.PLAN TO CHANGE THE WAY IT ATTACHES TO THE CHASSIS ALSO

-ALSO PLANNING ON RE-ENGINEERING MY CURRIE TWIN STICK...THE HANDLES FLEX TOO MUCH AND THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH SLOP IN IT.I PLAN TO REPLACE THE 1/2 INCH SHIFT LEVERS WITH 5/8THS ROUND BAR AND LOSE THE LITTLE JUNK METAL LINKS TO BE REPLACED WITH 5/16THS HEIMS!!!

-AND LAST....A LONGER FRONT HYDRO RAM FOR MORE STEERING ANGLE AND POSSIBLY BACK TO A STOCK STEERING PUMP SINCE MY BLING PSC CANNOT KEEP UP......

OOPS I FORGOT.....ITS GONNA GET AN UPDATED HOOD AND GRILL(AS LONG AS IT FITS....)ANOTHER ADDITION MADE POSSIBLE BY TRENT FAB!!!!

ILL PUT IT ALL IN THIS THREAD...(MINUS THE TECH ARTICLES..)STAY TUNED...FOR ANOTHER ROUND!!!!!:Big Grin:

OK JUST ORDERED FROM THESE GUYS....

http://thecuttingboardfactory.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

THATS THE STRAIGHT DEAL ON UHMW-PE FOR SLICK FLAT BELLY SKID PLATE MATERIAL....BETTER PRICED THAN THE LOCAL GUY EVEN SHIPPED!!!! COMES IN FASHION COLORS TOO!!!!

Zebaru
May 20th, 2008, 09:19 AM
That appears to be HDPE, not UHMWPE.

HDPE is not quite the equal of, and generally costs about half as much as UHMWPE.

UHMWPE has a lower coefficient of friction, and superior abrasion and impact resistance.

Whether the extra cost is worth it or not I dont know...

I used one of the local plastic places, and I expected to have to go white, but they had black, and it was actually a bit cheaper - though it wasn't exactly cheap. I think it was around $200 for my two 2'x6' pieces, maybe more.

I think white would have looked lame on my rig...

Tripp plastics??

No, it was Silver State Plastics or Nevada Plastics or something like that.

Their shop is on Greg right before the railroad tracks and I drive by everyday on my way home. I just stopped in one day and asked if they could get me some UHMW sheet, black if possible. They had to order it, but had no problem cutting it into pieces that fit in the Justy... I never shopped the price or anything, so I have no idea how good/bad my deal was. Then again, I was satisfied with the deal, so I never felt the need...

CUTIING BRAKES
NEW SKID WITH A BACKED UHMW PLASTIC AND REVISED MOUNTING...

I imagine that buggy is right near the weight limit.

I SET THE REGULATOR TO 250 PSI,HOLD THE FILL ON FOR 3-5 SECONDS....THEN ADJUST TO RIGHT AROUND 210-220 FOR THE FRONTS(THAT LEAVES ME 4-5 INCHES OF SHOCK SHOWING AFTER BOUNCING ON IT TO LET IT SETTLE.

AND AS FAR AS SPRUNG WEIGHT IM SURE IM STILL PLENTY LIGHT FOR THOSE SHOCKS!!!!THE REASON THE SHOCK BLEW IS BECAUSE THE O-RING BETWEEN THE BODY AND CAP PUSHED OUT FROM MIS-INSTALLATION ORIGINALLY.

Are you gonna paint the side skins yellow as well? Think it would look better than the clear. Plus you could stand out like a sore thumb then.

I'd paint it and see how it looks, most rigs leave it unpainted so it'd be different for sure!

HE TOLD ME THEY WERE IN STOCK AT RANDYS(INNERS ONLY AS I ALREADY HAVE OUTERS...),I TOLD HIM TO MAKE SURE BECAUSE IF I WAS GONNA HAVE TO WAIT....THEN DONT BOTHER!!!!

I HOPE HE DIDNT TELL ME THE STORY THEY USED TO TELL.....OR HE WILL BE HOPPING AROUND ON HIS CANE HANDS-FREE LIKE TIGGER!!!

I was getting them from Alloy USA, not Randys  if you wanted cheaper (not as good) of axles I could have gotten you those. When i called Alloy to have them shipped Chris there told me in stock ready to ship. When i called Monday when i hadn't gotten a shipping confirmation I called you and told you the deal. I don't remember Yukon's or Randy's being questioned as an option.

So as far as the whole "telling what they used to tell people bullshit" :wtf: why would I try to conciously screw someone locally over and have to listen to it for the next 5 years everytime i go wheeling?

First of all the quote was me f-n with ya since connect was F-n with me(or so I thought....).

Second I never specified a type of axle alloy or yukon(thats why I pm'd you asking the maker...).

Third on my original call to you ,I asked "are they in stock" and said Make sure they are in stock or Ill get them somewhere else.....you said "Ill call them and confirm" and called me back saying yep in stock...you will see them either friday 6/20 or monday 6/23...so monday rolls around and you call...they havent shipped!!!

So...being there is a comp I would like to make and have something better than stock chevy inner axles on my buggy I was left with the hope it shows or find some axles problem......since I had a call into Tfab looking for a spotter I figured why not ask them if they can come up with the parts.....

I doubt at any point I mentioned the vendor.....but I needed my parts.Sorry if you think I was bashing ya but I was just gonna let it go....

Look I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. Rockape called about a spotter and expressed his concern about the axle shafts not being here for him to compete. I made a phone call and confirmed I would have 4340 axle shafts in hand today no problem. As for which brand is " BETTER " that is a matter of opinion.

nothing wrong with their ring and pinions or install kits. Just their 4340 shafts are hit and miss between quality and junk.

Hard to say, I don't have a break so I can't break the 1/4" material to the angles, pretty much just flat cutting.
