MR.ROCKAPE
July 12th, 2008, 07:20 PM
SINCE THESE ARE UPDATED VERSIONS THAT WILL HAVE BETTER ROLL AXIS AND SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT DIMENTIONS(NARROWER IN THE MIDDLE AND WIDER AT THE ENDS...)....I DECIDED TO KEEP WITH THE PIMP'N THEME THESE WILL BE CALLED "THE MACK"
(AS IN MACK DADDY....)
I SPENT ABOUT 4.5 HOURS TODAY AND THREE STICKS OF TUBE AND GOT THE MAIN CHASSIS RAILS READY FOR THE LOWER SECTIONS AND THE MAIN HOOP....

MAY PLANS ARE TO BUILD ALL THREE TO HAVE MOTOR AND LINK MOUNTING TABS ALL IN PLACE.ONE CHASSIS IS GOING TO A CUSTOMER LOCALLY...HIS WILL HAVE A MOTOR ,TRANS(MODIFIED BY ME...)AND WIRING HARNESS WHEN IT DOES HOME TO HIM AND HE WILL FINISH IT.
I THINK I AM GOING TO BUILD ANOTHER ONE OF THEM AS A ROLLER WITH AXLES,LINKS AND SHOCKS...POSSIBLY A TURN KEY IF SOMEONE IS WILLING TO PAY TO FINISH IT OR CAN TAKE IT HOME AND DO IT THEMSELVES TO SAVE $$$...
THE THIRD ONE WILL EITHER GET SOLD AS A BARE CHASSIS(WITH TABS) OR IF IT DOESNT SELL I PLAN TO BUILD THE ULTIMATE PIMP FOR MYSELF WITH A 2.0 B20 MOTOR,DIAMOND AXLE HOUSINGS AND A BUNCH OF BLING I SKIPPED ON THE FIRST ONE......IF IT GOES THIS WAY I WILL SELL THE ORIGINAL AND THE THIRD CHASSIS WILL BE MINE:cool:

i take is though your change in dimensions are not to accomodate a second seat? We talked about it, maybe you should "protype" a 2 seat version in this build.

WITH THE WAY THE DRIVELINE RUNS SO CLOSE TO THE SEAT NOW THERE ISNT ANY ROOM WITHOUT MAKING THE CHASSIS ATLEAST 6-8 INCHES TALLER....
PLUS THE ADDED WEIGHT MIGHT MAKE IT ON THE UNDERPOWERED SIDE.....
IF I DID THAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS....

MAYBE IM JUST CRITICAL BUT THE RHINOs LOOK LIKE CORKY DESIGNED THEM....AT LEAST MINE HAS SOME FLOW IN THE WAY IT LOOKS.

Whats the lowest point on your engine/tranny combo? From what I remember you could probably drop your motor 3-4 inches, but I think the lowest point is the transmission output shafts(?) maybe the tranny pan?

SINCE THE TRANS HOVERS ABOUT A HALF INCH ABOVE THE LOWEST TUBE IN THE CHASSIS THE ENGINE/TRANS IS AS LOW AS IT CAN GO!!!

YEAH BEND TECH IS THE SHIZ-NIT!!!IT TOOK PROBABLY 8 HOURS TO DO THE FIRST ONE TO THIS POINT.THE NOTCHES ARE DONE WITH A HOLE SAW TYPE NOTCHER ITS KINDA SLOW AND HARD ON HAND DRILLS,BUT DOES A GOOD JOB.....PLUS SINCE THESE ARE GOING TO BE SOMEONE ELSES,AND WELDED BY A PRO,THEY NEED TO BE NICE.:gapteeth:

ONE THING I AM FINDING OUT ABOUT BUILDING A FEW AT A TIME IDS THAT ONCE YOU GET THE BENDS RIGHT YOU ONLY NEED TO SPEND TIME FIGURING OUT ONE PIECE ON HOW TO NOTCH AND CUT TO THE CORRECT LENGTH....ALL THE OTHERS JUST FALL IN LINE...I AM GONNA WORK ON IT TOMORROW AND HOPEFULLY THEY WILL LOOK LIKE THIS BY THE END OF THE DAY..

doesn't BendTech give you paper cut-outs to rap around the tube for the notches? doing a notch to a straight tube is easy, but those cut-outs might be helpful for those "funky" ones you come across from time-to-time like your talking about. I think with the paper templates and a steady hand with a plasma cutter might work.

can you rate that difficulty level for me in trying to copy your to-be frontend??? in terms of setting angles correctly and anti-squat etc...
Since I have the same (minus the tranny) drivetrain...i was going to copy it, but now i'm thinking a simple 3-link would be nice...and keep the leafs in the rear...(a little XJ-ish) What is your thoughts...? I've got the axles and t-case and should be working on getting some of the links this weekend...brackets will have to wait until I know what route i'm going... and as for steering I want to keep it "streetable" so I can't punch the axle too far forward...but I want to...

SINCE ALL BUT THE PANHARD BRACKETS WERE BOUGHT ,ITS MORE ABOUT WELDING IT THAN ANYTHING......GRANTED THERE WILL BE SOME FIGURING TO KEEP THE STEERING BOX AND NOT HAVE MASSIVE BUMP STEER.ONCE I GET INTO DOING MINE ILL KNOW FOR SURE IF IM GONNA KEEP THE BOX OR NOT.
AND FOR A STREET DRIVEN RIG THE RADIUS ARM TYPE FRONT (LIKE AN R.E. KIT HAS)WILL DO THE JOB AND MAKES IT SO YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT AN UPPER LINK.BTW THE REAR IS EASIER TO LINK THAN THE FRONT!!!!

ANYWAYS I CANT GIVE YA A TIME FIGURE UNTIL THEY ARE ALL DONE,WELDED AND READY TO BE DELIVERED.I HAVE KEPT REALLY CLOSE TRACK OF TIME SPENT SO FAR AND AT THIS POINT I AM UNDER 100 HOURS SPENT FOR ALL THREE!!!

ITS ALL 1.5 .120 DOM....IF I WERE TO BUILD ONE CROMO I WOULD USE .095....
MY INTENDED PURPOSE ORIGINALLY WAS COMPS BUT IT IS PRETTY COMFY TO DRIVE SO IT WILL SEE MORE TRAIL USE THIS YEAR.....AND LIKELY THE DOWN TOWN RENO COMP!!!

As soon as I have something other than axles and a chassis, I will start a thread. I will try to get component weights as I go so we can see if 2400 even makes sense (sounds heavy to me).
Im not really the competitive type, but once I get done, I'll be hitting all the crazy trails:
Jumbo, HLT, Peavine, Steve's Loop, and maybe a few of the easy ones too just to get some seat time...

Bling(ish) axles, air shocks, tires, harness - thats all the big stuff besides what was delivered last night.
I still need an engine, steering, brakes, drivelines, and all that little stuff that takes forever like chassis wiring
What mine will have besides a better chassis is the rear arb, cutting brakes, 37s instead of 39s, and a very different cockpit layout...
The more I do differently, the longer it will likely take.
