SINCE I WANNA BE BLING LIKE ALL THE ROCK CRAWLERS WITH TIGHT TURNING FRONT AXLES...
SO I PULLED OUT MY FRONT AXLE SHAFTS AND SENT THEM TO BRANIK MOTORSPORTS FOR ONE OF THEIR MACHINING JOBS......A PIC OF WHAT THEY SHOULD LOOK LIKE WHEN DONE......
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r144/lt1wrangler/DSCN0621.jpg
SINCE IT WILL TURN SHARPER ILL NEED TO REPLACE MY STEERING RAM WITH ONE THAT HAS MORE TRAVEL(GOING FROM A 8" STROKE TO A 10" STROKE...I ALSO UPPED THE BORE SIZE TO 2.5 IN HOPES OF SLOWING DOWN MY STEERING SLIGHTLY....)
WITH THIS MOD I SHOULD HAVE A SOLID 45 DEGREES OVER MY 32-34 DEGREES I HAVE NOW......

looks like a lot of metal to remove, worried about the "big bang"
getting pretty thin on that yoke?

Seems to hold up pretty well as long as the shaft is already a chromoly shaft! I've seen quite a few rigs with branik machined shafts on them and do just fine, take Jesse's unlimited buggy for example.
When I get some bling 35 spline cromoly shit on my rig, I plan on having mine done.

LIKE CONNECT SAID THEY HAVE BEEN TESTED.....BUT ACCORDING TO ALLOY USA AND YUKON THEY WILL STILL WARRANTY THE AXLES BECAUSE THEY ARENT BREAKING IN THE AREA THAT BEEN MACHINED OUT.....THEY STILL JUST BREAK OFF THE EARS.....SO ILL GIVE IT A TRY...THIS IS PRETTY MUCH MY LAST MOD THAT I CAN DO OTHER THAN HD OUTPUTS FOR MY T-CASE OR AN ATLAS.....

interesting that the ears are still the weak point
atlas is over rated, I have had two and installed a few more, although they are bomber, I have never heared of one shifting good consistenetly, mine pisses me off all the time since it was new, even when i go to the trouble of adjusting it correctly. I would be interested in seeing how the cable one shifts compared to the solid linkage ones like i have had. I think its all inside where the problem lies., and my forks are not bent
seems like a d300 with HD outputs is just as good, or maybe STAX has it figured out, or maybe its just me

I FIGURE FOR THE $$$ 10 DEGREES MORE STEERING HAS TO BE WORTH THE MONEY TO TRY....SURE I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A SPIDER 9,BUT MY CHASSIS WOULDNT LET ME TURN MUCH MORE THAN 45 DEGREES AS IT SITS NOW......WITH THIS MOD ILL HAVE MAYBE 3K IN MY FRONT 60 AND THAT INCLUDES ARB,35 SPLINE ALLOY SHAFTS,MACHINE ON THESE AXLES,DRIVE FLANGES.....:Big Grin:
YEAH I HAVE HEARD THAT THE ATLAS CAN BE A BIT OVER PRICED AND STILL CAN BE A PAIN TO SHIFT AT TIMES(LIKE MY DANA 300....).
I AM SITTING ON A 3 SPEED STAK(ITS FREAKIN A BIG T-CASE...) FOR THE TOYOTA PROJECT(IF I EVER GET IT STARTED......)IF IT WOULD FIT I WOULD TRY IT IN MY BUGGY!!!!

Not sure what the time frame is for your axles, but Stan from Branik will be at the We-Rock finals and we're picking up some parts from him. We would have them back by Tuesday the 9th if you want us to bring 'em back for you.
I've broken 1 Yukon shaft that were clearanced like this. The first one seemed like a bad shaft because the ears were fine and it just sheared at the splines, shaft had maybe 15 minutes on it and I wasn't being insanely hard on it. I broke another one that wasn't clearanced about a month later that wasn't clearanced. It bent my temporary steering stop and bound the axle.

ALL RIGHT I FINALLY GOT ONE OF THE PIECES OF THE PUZZLE ALMOST DONE TODAY.I CUT OUT THE OLD RAM MOUNTS ,CUT OUT NEW BRACKETS(AND I FAWKING HATE MAKING BRACKETS!!!)AND TACKED IT ALL TOGETHER WITH THE NEW 2.5 INCH BORE 10 INCH TRAVEL RAM.....(REPLACING MY 8INCH 2 INCH BORE...)
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff100/ROCKAPEJR/100_2850.jpg
IT ALSO GOT A NEW TIE ROD SINCE THE OLD ONE WAS BENT AND I DIDNT WANT TO CUT OFF ANY MORE BRACKETS THAN I HAD TO....
IF YOU NOTICE THE CLEVIS HAS BEEN CUT OFF AND REPLACED WITH A 3/4 HEIM......THIS MADE THE RAM 2 INCHES SHORTER!!!!THE MOD WAS PERFORMED BY EastCoast44 AS A FAVOR AND MADE FITTING THAT LARGER RAM IN BETWEEN THE AXLE HOUSING AND TIE-ROD ALOT EASIER!!!!
I JUST NEED TO GET MY NEWLY MACHINED AXLES AND YUKON SUPER JOINTS EARLY NEXT WEEK TO FINISH THIS JOB AND BE STEERING LIKE A BIG $$$ AXLE.......ON A BEER BUDGET!!!

FINISHED THE RAM INSTALL THIS MORNING...IM STILL WAITING ON THE AXLES BUT YOU CAN GET AN IDEA HOW SHARP IT WILL TURN....

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff100/ROCKAPEJR/100_2857.jpg
IT TURNS A SOLID 48 DEGREES CURRENTLY AND THE LOWER LINKS ARE THE LIMITING FACTOR SINCE THE TIRES RUB THEM!!!
THE LONGER RAM HAS REALLY SLOWED MY STEERING DOWN ALSO....I USED TO BE TWO TURNS LOCK TO LOCK NOW ITS FOUR!!!!
HERE YOU CAN KINDA SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN RAM BODY SIZE.....OLD 2 X 8-NEW 2.5 X 10!!!
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff100/ROCKAPEJR/100_2862.jpg
I SHOULD HAVE MY AXLES BY WEDS OR THURSDAY......AND SINCE ITS APART IM GONNA PUT NEW ROTORS,CALIPERS AND PADS ON IT UP FRONT......

MY AXLES AND U-JOINTS ARRIVED TODAY!!!!SINCE I DIDNT HAVE THE CAMERA AT THE SHOP THERE ARE NO INSTALL PICS......BUT THEY LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE PICS IN MY FIRST POST.
WHEN I WAS INSTALLING THE AXLES I HAD THE TIE ROD DISCONNECTED AND COULD STEER THE KNUCKLE AS FAR AS IT WOULD GO AND I COULD SPIN THE AXLE SHAFT FREELY.....IM PRETTY SURE 50 DEGREES IS PRETTY POSSIBLE WITH THIS MOD.....BUT NOT IN MY RIG BECAUSE THE LOWER LINKS STOP THE TIRES A BIT BEFORE IT GET THERE....
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff100/ROCKAPEJR/100_2863.jpg

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff100/ROCKAPEJR/100_2865.jpg
I DID GO WITH THE YUKON SUPER JOINTS ALONG WITH THIS MOD,AND REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS,PADS AND LEFT FRONT CALIPER AS WELL.....
BRANIK DID HOOK ME UP SINCE I HAD BOUGHT NEW YUKON OUTER SHAFTS, BECAUSE MY OLD ONES WERE THE WEAKER EAR'D ONES.....THEY MACHINED MY OLD ONES TO USE AS SPARES....FOR NO CHARGE!!!!(SAVED ME $150.....)
JUST FROM DRIVING IT AROUND THE PARKING LOT THIS AFTERNOON....THIS THING TURNS WAY BETTER......MAYBE NOT 60 DEGREES BUT NOT $10K EITHER!!!!

45 degrees is still a lot better then stock! You'll definitely have fun in the cone's this weekend with all the mods you've done! Good luck to you and roboticon!
Sorry about bugging you this afternoon, I was worried I wasn't going to be able to get a regulator and a hose made before 5 and thought you might have your fill station at the shop. Turns out a quick call the to praxair and parker hydraulics and I was good to go!
