They are talking about quadrasteer and and honda preludes! :Big Grin: I like the comment about the walmart parking lot, I don't know if he was taking a stab or that was truthful.

I think even Duneracer might be a little smarter then the mall crawlers, but he's still a fawkin idiot! Do us a favor, and ask the question here where you might get an intelligent answer from a few people who have done rear steer, and are actual fabricators mmmk? Or better yet sign up and pirate, and post on a Tuesday. That'd be classic!

I LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU TRY CLOWNING ON THE XJ NATION (LIKE YOU DO REARSTEERS ALL THE TIME:rolleyes:) JUST BECAUSE YOU SOLD YOUR XJ...THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU MORE INTELLIGENT, JUST BECAUSE AN XJ ISN'T IN YOUR POSSESSION ANYMORE. AT LEAST DUNERACER WAS NEVER RETARDED ENOUGH TO OWN ONE..

Actually, he did own one
Did I say I was the expert? Nope. We do just so happen to have Rockape who recently built a rear steer buggy, and the proclaimed "rear steer expert" eastcoast44 on this board who Might be able to answer his questions a bit better.
And stating the obvious that if you need to ask r4x4 how to pin a rear steer setup for street use, your probably not going to be a good enough fabricator to build your own rear steer setup.

speaking of ax15s... mine grinds a little shifting into 1st/2nd and on occassion going into reverse..(mind you this isn't all the time, most days it acts like a brand new tranny)..it is the earlier ax15 with the (internal or was it external) whats my best course of action? shoot it and replace it (it has a shit load of miles on it)... or convert it?? I was trying to keep an eye out for a nv3500 or 3550....but....what do the smart folks have to say...

IF ITS GOT A MILLION MILES ON IT(LIKE THE ONE IN MY "WIFES" YJ...)I WOULD JUST RUN IT UNTIL YOU CANT STAND IT.
BUT SINCE IT COMES AND GOES MAKE SURE THE CLUTCH FLUID ISNT LOW(I HOPE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A YJ/TJ...) OR LEAKING....THAT CAN CAUSE A GRIND TO COME AND GO.IT WILL GRIND WHEN FIRST DRIVEN AND GO AWAY AS IT IS USED MORE AND THE AIR GETS PUMPED OUT OF THE SYSTEM.

I have the same problem, mine also will pop out of 1st and 2nd. Im gonna run it (tranny) into the ground and if i feel that the motor and t-case still have some life left, Im gonna swap in an AW4 with a push button shift controller. I have all the parts for the swap just want to get everything out of my ax-15 1st.

mine doesn't pop out of gear, but it does have like 225K...:Big Grin:..... I like having a manual again, but I think I would be willing to go that same direction if this thing takes a big o'l dump on me. Would you be using this AWshifting.com as the controller? or something different...

Funny but you haven't had a crawler that would crawl so how would you know what a stick even drives like. I will take a manual over an auto anyday with the right crawl ratio.

Yep and I have been using that trick alot, though I think you shouldn't need it if your links are set up right, even if I gas it going up a dirt incline the back end wants to buck.

Except when your crawl ratio calls for a 6:1 t-case, and your budget is slated for a 4:1!
I've wheeled in plenty of jeeps with sticks, and let's just say I'm lazy and don't want to have to deal with three pedals. Even if your crawl ratio is correct, I would take an auto any day over a clutch.
In the end it comes down to personal preference, and that's pretty much the 1 thing I don't like about my project.

September 10th, 2008, 03:40 PM
With a 100:1 crawl ratio you only need to deal with one pedal, and that is the go pedal :gapteeth: Though I'm at 90:1 with a 3.15:1 Dana 20 TC and T18.

My project will be at 90:1 with 40's. Seems high, but for 40's not really. Should be around 110 or above!
With an auto it would place it around a more acceptable 54:1.
Sure that while you are crawling 100:1 is great, until you need to stop half way up a climb

YES AND NO ,MOMENTUM AND TRACTION CAN BE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS DEPENDING HOW STEEP THE CLIMB IS.AND AT 70 DEGREES PLUS WITH COILS AND A FULL BODIED JEEP YOU MIGHT BE LIVING WITH THAT HOP.....

I'm not even going to comment on your fucking idiot line. And as far as why I posted it there any not here, was due to shit ass comments like that and why would you put that on a street rig among other things. Also I was looking for "LEGAL" input, and most of the people on here from what i've seen have either some type of buggy or aren't to worried about johhny law. Plus having more mall crawlers on that site means I have a better chance of someone that actually knows the law answering that. Now if it was a technical question pertaining to rear steer it would have been on here since I guarentee theres actually people on this site with rear steer and know something about it.

well considering its the "internets" its hard to tell when someone is messing with you. I wasn't sayin i'd even put it on this project, but I wouldn't rule it out either, might be kinda cool to play with especially being a longer wheelbase unit than i'm used to.
