MOST OF THE ONES AT GRANITE HAD AT LEAST 300K ON THEM BEFORE THEY SOLD THE TRUCK!!!!!AND THEY USUALLY STILL RAN GOOD.....JUST USED OIL LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN!!!

WHEN I BOUGHT MINE IT HAD 130K ON IT.....AND DOESNT USE ANY OIL!!!!

THEY ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THEY ARE TAKEN CARE OF.

I baught my 01 psd 6 speed manuel with 176,000 on it 3 years ago it now has 205 on it. The only things I have replaced is the wheel bearings (not cheap) Water pump, alt and batteries and it has had two clutches (1600 miles apart the first one was fucked up from the time I got it back from the shop) Mine runs great!

I'd say the same thing ape said. Just as long as they did service it and didn't have it chipped. Now someone tell me are the 7.3's HUEI motors?

I couldn't remember, I knew they used caterpillar injectors. xjmoser, i'd look to see if they did the oil changes regulary then, if not it could have affected the life of the high pressure oil pump for the injectors.

I DONT THINK I HAVE EVER SEEN INJECTORS GO BAD FROM OIL CHANGES....BUT WATER KILLS THEM QUICK!!!!AT LEAST THEY ARENT HARD TO DO.....KINDA MESSY WHEN YOU PULL THE GLOW PLUG AND PURGE THE CYL OF OIL!!!

THEY ARE NOT CHEAP EITHER!!!!:frown:

I THINK MY BRO-DEAL IS $150-$200 EACH FROM SIERRA DIESEL OR A PLACE OVER THE HILL.

I USED TO REPLACE A TON OF THEM IN GRANITE TRUCKS WHEN THEIR DIESEL PUMP TANKS GOT LOW AND THEY WOULD GET A GOOD DRINK OF WATER.......THEY PAY GOOD AND ARENT HARD TO DO.

exactly the truth....get what is going to make you happy (and can afford etc)...the one thing I wouldn't even think about is anything other than a crew cab, they are SUPER nice...

hmm after reading that thread i do not see any mention of clutch trouble before getting diesel on it...seems that he is upset that he has to replace the clutch with only 8000 miles but i don't see any mention of it not working for any other reason then the operator error causing its early demise...but then he didn't directly say that rockape did a bad job on the clutch install so who knows...just another turn of the page in the soap opera book we call "as the rockgods turns"....

but back on topic...7.3 are great motors...both of the ones I owned had over 200,000 and only issues I had has the glow plugs going bad. And crew cabs do rock!!! Making babies in the back seat after a long day wheeling is always a definite bonus!

I'm still kicking my self in the ass for not going crew cab...it didn't fit in my garage at the old house by only an inch or two, and had I known that I would of had a crew cab. Way more room and easier to get ur crap outa the back too
