Well i'm mostly back from the Moab trip and the jeeps did better than my truck.:pissed2: I killed either the transmission, the engine(internal) or both. its at reno dodge and im waiting for the verdict.

i have been able to get the passengers, one jeep, the truck and trailer back to reno, but one jeep is still in elko.

ive called a number of my friends and everyone conveniently has a turbo or transmission on their truck thats worn out and cant help.

i have the trailer, fuel and food for anyone willing to donate their truck or truck + themselves to bring my jeep back from elko this afternoon.

FAWK THAT!!! I HOPE IT IS AN ENGINE PROBLEM!!!

ive got 6k miles left of my cummins 100k warranty and i want a new one before it expires- even if i have to MAKE it happen.

its been at dodge for a couple days, and my buddy there is still working on picking it apart and giving my a verdict on what i broke.

i was pulling onto the onramp back towards reno in wendover and heard a loud bang, then lost drivetrain power; the engine was free revving, while the trailer+2 jeeps momentum slowed the truck down to a stop. a couple seconds went by of my free revving the motor and trying different trans gear selection options, i heard a couple more bangs then the motor died. i either something in the trans or the engine or both is holding the flywheel from moving to the point where i couldnt the starter wont move it whatsoever.

i took the bellhousing inspection cover off and could not move the flywheel with a big ass screwdriver in the normal rotation, and barely moved 5 teeth before not moving in the reverse engine rotation direction. there are no dents in the oil pan indicating dropping a rod or piston or crank, and i pulled the valve cover to check if i had any obvious top end damage. none of the ports on my exhaust manifold look obviously different color wise indicating a melted piston. the torque converter-from what i can see through the inspection covers- looks fine with no physical distortion or heat coloring... not even any real fluid loss or seepage.

personally i think i ate up a trans input shaft which and blew apart a torque converter from the inside, but my buddy at dodge thinks its engine internal despite the above explanation of what happened. whatever it is, its either engine internal or trans internal.

im HOPING its the engine, just so that i can take advantage of my warranty without having to intentionally blow it up within the next 6k miles... plus if its JUST the motor, it will be cheaper on me personally.

before they put a new engine in, i want them to shove a cam in it and stud the head. ill be looking at about 1000 worth of aftermarket parts, and no real extra time or labor because the engine isnt in the vehicle yet.

on the other hand, if its the transmission, it will cost me about 2000 worth of aftermarket parts; since i wont let them repair it with more stock parts that ill just break. im going to go the same route on the trans as i did on my old truck: new upgraded internals, clutches, suncoast TC, upgraded valve body.

overall ill be ok if i broke the engine. id be proud of myself if i destroyed both. id be annoyed if its the trans and not the engine, though.

ill know by the end of the week im sure!

How bad is Dodge to work with regarding your truck being modified? Is your buddy looking the otherway on that OR is their warrenty that good ???

When I had mine, the service guy only got pissed because I didn't wash the mud off the truck (so the tech got pissed at him) before I dropped it off when the tranny blew...otherwise he didn't care that it was lifted etc... The dodge dealer was real easy to work with

thats a good question.

since half of the reno dodge service department adivsors and tech's are blvd pizza customers, and the tech that is working on my truck is one of my best friends(aaron montez's(deadandcompany) brother) i dont know if i get like super extra special treatment or if thats just their policy.

naturally there needs to be a limit to what they'd warranty... chips and intakes and exhausts dont hurt drivetrains that much, but i could see them getting upset by opening up the hood and seeing 2 turbos and twin CP3's; i dont care who you are, they probably wouldnt warranty out a moderately to heavily modified engine

my truck only has an intake, exhaust, one programmer and a moderately bigger turbo on it. plus i was towing well within the trucks tow rating limits

i went riding with my buddy today and we were talking about my truck a little bit. this was the explanation i got

chrysler, for the most part, doesnt turn down the cummins warranty except for fuel contamination issues. AKA bad biodiesel, ATF, gasoline, contaminants from aftermarket tanks, aux tanks and old fuel etc.

the 12 and 24valve trucks could care less what you pour into the engines, but the common rail engines are really picky.

I got one of those sheets from GM still from when they tried saying my "performance modifacations caused all the crank and rod bearings to seize. I guess those assholes filling my motor full of diesel doesn't hurt anything  I'm glad that crap is over with and they finally paid for the new motor.
