May 9th, 2009 Great Truckee Meadows Community Clean Up (http://www.ktmb.org/gtmccu.htm)
I received a telephone call from Maia D. @ KTMB last week about the major cleanup planned for May 9th (second Saturday in May).
It appears that they may be attempting to move/extract some of the abandoned Peavine vehicles.
I'll contact Maia this week to find out what sorta showing she may need for trash/vehicle cleanup

Thanks Chris,
If you could please encourage people to sign up for a site in advance through the KTMB website (www.ktmb.org) we would really appreciate it. And if there was one site in particular, everyone wants to meet at, you or someone else from your group could sign up and in the "notes" area, just let us know about how many people could be expected.
And yes, abandoned vehicles will be removed during this event. The one's that are on the Forest Service list will be removed via helicopter on two different days. We are still working on the dates/times but right now we think it will be on Wednesday, May 6 for the cars around the W. Keystone trailhead and Saturday, May 9 (the day of the cleanup) for cars on the other side of Peavine with a staging area at Raleigh Heights. If there are other cars that 4x4 folks want to pull out and leave at a staging area, just let me know where they are placed and I'll call American Auto Wreckers to come and pick them up.
And, again, yes there will be at least one dumpster at each of the cleanup sites. They will be dropped off the morning of the cleanup and picked up the same day. However, I would encourage you to wait until the cleanup day of the cleanup to collect any trash to be put in a dumpster. And this is just because, unfortunately, it has been our experience that if some people are up there and they see a pile of trash, they are more tempted to dump their trash along with it and the pile becomes much larger than it originally was.
If you have any more questions please let me know. I look forward to working with you and 4x4 groups to make this cleanup a success!
Best,
Maia Dickerson
