The AC on my 84 Land Cruiser doesn't work. I guess I should convert the system to a newer freon. Any suggestions?

ITS PRETTY EASY......THE BEST WAY IS TO REMOVE THE AC COMPRESSOR,DUMP OUT THE OIL,ADD THE CORRECT OIL AND AMOUNT,INSTALL CONVERSION FITTINGS,REPLACE DRYER,CHARGE SYSTEM TO 80% OF R-12 SUGGESTED VALUE WITH R-134.......

NOW IF YOUR OLD FREON HAD A SLIGHT LEAK....IT WILL BE WORSE WITH R-134 AS IT IS THINNER!!!!I ALWAYS ADD DYE WHEN I DID THE CONVERSION TO HELP AID THE SECOND REPAIR(ACTUALLY THE FIRST REPAIR OF A LEAK THAT LET THE R-12 OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!).

IF I DIDNT SELL MY R-134 MACHINE LAST WEEKEND I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO IT FOR YA.........:frown:

Do they suggest an R11 flush with the conversion. I ususlly do it when I change a system from R22 to R 410

Don't forget to run it under a vac for atleast 15 minutes

I guess I should find out what the problem is before I screw with the system to much. I don't hear the compressor clutch engage when I hit the AC button so that may need to be fixed. Last weeks temps upped the priority of this repair.

I usually pull down till I hit 500 microns or better and my gauges are setting at -30 psi or so. Then I go get lunch and see if it holds.

I don't have a vacuum pump.

 I thought it was impossible to hit -30 on earth?
