New to wheeling, new to doing automotive work that's above and beyond bolt on direct swap tune up type stuff. Think, fuel pump or alternator. My 89 XJ is my first 4x4, and it's a POS. Seriously chewed up 33's (pervious owner packed the tires in with no trim) on a weak 3" lift. It's also my DD. Nothing impressive has been done to it, and using the standards set by the current company chances are nothing ever will be.
That said, it will be the best I can make it, and unless for some reason I have safety concerns (I'll ride in a death trap, my daughter will not...) I'll do it myself. I will not ask questions about tire size, lift height, SYEs, gear ratios or anything else that's already well covered by books, the internet at large and the search button. Which isn't to say I'll never ask stupid questions, but I will do my best to find my own answer before I do.
Next step, is to get disk brakes on my 44 and swap it in. After that a whole lot of neglected basic maintenance. After THAT I can finally get started on doing shit that matters, like a new lift. Which reminds me, if I go to 4.5" do I need to install a SYE? :P J/k.
Photo is old, thought I had a newer one in my bucket but *shrug* It's got a much better (In terms of clearance anyway) trim and a roof rack now. Packing three dogs two adults and a two year old in didn't leave much room for gear... So to the roof it had to go. Some of you might recognize it, and if you do, let me say :fuckyou:
Yes, I found TRG via Reno4x4. Yes I post there. No, not under the same name. But there's already enough in this post to cross ref it if you actually care. Or I supposed you could ask.
