I need feedback

So Therockgods has made some necessary improvements (like updated the front page) and we are now on a new private server. So I plan to do some house cleaning and make some more changes. (stop laughing I'll try not to crash the board)...

First off what are your likes/dislikes about the current board?
What are your suggestions for things you want to see or would like to be able to do?
Does anyone use the garage feature or would a regular photo album bet better?
Any sections that you want that arn't here or any sections that seem out of date or unnecessary?

I realize that are avatars as are arn't exactly work friendly and do offend some users. As of right now all users can go to the usercp and turn off avatars(http://therockgods.com/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions), but I am trying to make it default that avatars do not appear to anyone but paid users, cause the way I figure it if you pay up then you are accepting the fact that we arn't 100% family orientated. Since this is a bit of tricky code until I get the bugs worked out avatars will remain visible to all unless you turn them off.

Frank has been rather quiet for sometime and as of late he has seen the potential for really getting behind the site and has given Rockape and myself the green light to up the antsy. Maybe something about a rock crawler using an import engine???? Anyways we have been around a few years and I enjoy the open ended approach to our forum but I also understand that it has given us either a earned or unearned reputation. So on behalf of the couple admins and mods this site has I want to thank all the members we have here for your support now and in the future. I do say it was nice to see Rockgods shirts flying at Reno Rocks.

I got one...whats the difference between the sections, Campfire, chit chat, and hardcore section? (minus the 35% cause that ones in a class of its own) But they all kinda seem the same to me

When I set the board up, Rockape and I kinda had a plan as to how we wanted things to go...the players section (cjit-chat) was for the new guys and for more clean family style posts...the campfire was for basically non-4x4 related items(things you might talk about around the campfire) but with no moderating and the hardcore was for the gloves off anything goes section...so after the last three years the sections have basically kinda just run together. I was thinking about trimming down some of the sections, so this might be an area to combine sections. I might also just clean up threads and move things around to realign the planets to our more original plan.

Ok the basic set up is cool but need to refine it Blue and yes it all does just seem to run together so maybe just run hardcore and Newbie Section then you have the events and trails run comming up and already happened just my 2 cents bud

I've been working with hierarchical file systems for a while, what I find works is three or four major titles. In this case I see four; Events, Tech, Commerce, and Bullshit.(make up your own titles)
from there branch out to no more that four sub files ( forums in this case) for each major title. The exception would be a list. In my world it would be product lines, here it might be breaking tech out into brands ( toyota, ford, Heep etc.).

i'd like a general auto tech section! since i left all my hot rod homies in cali a few years ago, i have been missing it bad....that might fill that void just a little bit.

i really don't care for the seperate "pics" sections. If a trail run thread gets started and eventually ran, the photos should just be in that thread. i shouldn't have to hunt down the "pics" thread. and until i go to the "pics" thread and subscribe to it, i don't get email updates when photos are posted.

also, i don't know if this forum software handles it, but i see more and more websites have a "mobile" version and is automatically detected when logging in via mobile devices like smart phones. it sure would speed things up when on the road. or atleast being able to reply to a thread via your email notification.

I don't think there are to many sections, they just need to be organized differently.

General automotive would be cool, but isn't that the same as non-4X tech?

if we made a seperate username/password like "BryanD-M", the "M" being for mobile login, and then turn all pics, and aviatars, etc OFF, and use that username to login via our phones it may help and is currently available. it would just be critical to keep you same username-M and aviatar so your comments can be still tracked as the same person.

just because i want mobile access doesn't mean i'm DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD all the time. i don't sit in front of a computer all day like some. i'm in/out of vehicle all day, with multiple stops, and often have "wait" times for various reasons. thats usually when i utilize the "fancy" phone features YOU F'ing JA!:Big Grin:

Im not changing nothing that would pussify our site. Just trying to figure out a way to make the avatars off for guests and unregistered people. Once you register then you have to accept the site the way it is. A person can always turn off avatars in their user cp section. I have no problem with the avatars but my boss does (only because of legal reasons).
