I want to know what you guys think would be the best upgrade for my 02 chevy silverado 2500HD with the 6.0L motor. I have a 21' toy hauler that I tow each weekend. This past weekend I decided its time to do somthing to improve the towing. I have 35s on it with stock gearing (which i think is 4:10s), intake, exhaust, and Hypertech programer. to do 65mph I am in the 3500-4200RPM range.. It just seems to struggle while towing. I want a duramax but just cant see getting a $500 a month payment when my truck is paid off.. So what should i do to help this thing out. I was thinking about regearing it... I thought about a supercharger but i dont want to spend the $5000 for a good one, and it will shorten the life of my motor.. So am I just SOL or is there somthing I'm missing!

OTHER THAN GEARING OR MAJOR SURGERY IM NOT SURE THERE IS MUCH MORE YOU CAN DO....EVEN GEARING DOESNT SEEM LIKE IT WOULD HELP SINCE YOU ARE TOWING IN THE MEAT OF THE POWERBAND FOR THAT ENGINE AS IT IS........
TOUGH CALL........AFTER HAVING MY DIESEL FOR 8-9 MONTHS NOW IM NOT SURE WHAT I DID WITHOUT IT!!!!AND OTHER THAN EXHAUST AND INTAKE IT IS STOCK!!!!NO PROGRAMMER!!!!

So maybe it would be better to just try and get the duramax... After I trade my truck in I would be paying 25000 for an 08 duramax with 30k on it. Sounds not too bad.. Not sure if I could find a better deal or not. All the other used diesls I have seen are beAt to shit! So I guess I have some thinking to do!...

YEAH IT KINDA COMES DOWN TO HOW MUCH YOU ARE GONNA ACTUALLY USE IT.......WITH MINE BEING OLDER AND NOT PAYING TOO MUCH FOR IT IM IN IT PRETTY RIGHT.BUT, I RARELY EVER JUST DRIVE IT AROUND....IT IS ALWAYS TOWING WHEN USED.SO FOR ME IT MADE SENSE AND EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT I LIKE IT THAT MUCH MORE.....AND IM A CHEVY GUY!!!! WHO KNEW FORD HAD IT IN THEM WHEN THEY BUILT THE 7.3???
JUST DONT GO GET INTO A BIG PAYMENT TO BE WITH THE TRENDY DIESEL CROWD THAT MAKES THEM GO-FAST BECAUSE ANY TARD CAN PLUG IN A PROGRAMMER AND BE FASTER THAN A KIA RIO!!!

Is 4200 rpm about where it should be when towing with my 6.0? I just felt like it was working that motor pretty hard

I think a diesel is the end all answer to your question, but a set of headers, CAM, maybe a 90mm TB, bigger injectors, and good Tune on the ECU for the cam would waken it up a little.
What sucks in the end is, it still won't be a stock diesel :)

Very true.. So that's just a waste of money.. I guess I'll just start saving!!
