I like the first thing you see on that you see is a spotted owl on the web page. The dumbest and most useless of creatures. Any animal you can walk up to and hit with a pine cone or cut down the tree they are sitting in and they dont fly off deserves exstinction.

How can we effectively be heard and really fight back ?? I know write letters, tell your congressman yada, yada, yada, volunteer (we know how far that gets us with the usfs), Its frustrating that we can send letters , go to meetings voice our opinions and still get shit on, and still have trails shut down. How can we make a real difference/progress ??? Mark, Don't get offended, but it seems like our side doesn't do shit !! and really have achieved very little, It would be nice for once to win big battles instead of small ones. It also makes more sense to open more trails to reduce pressure on the few existing ones we have now. Lastly who's side is the forestry service on ?? Ours ( doubt it!!) or theirs (eco nuts) More believable.:frown:

Ape, it's sad to hear what you say, but it's painfully true tho.:frown:

"The 26 million gallons of gasoline consumed by off-road vehicles each year"....

okay where do they come up with these numbers? Seriously it just sounds funny..there are approximately 1 million offroad vehicles licensed in cali..so lets just say every single one of them was ridin thats only 26 gallons of fuel per vehicle and obviously thats too much for one person..and that doesn't take into effect that alot of those are now 4-strokes.

or the fact that a dirt bike cause a dust cloud which they consider air pollution...so if there is a wind storm it won't blow dust?

"Because only a small fraction of the population — about 15 percent— participates in off-road vehicle recreation, reductions in use will have no impact on a majority of Californians."

that statement alone is why I no longer live in Cali!!!!!!

THAT IS THEIR WAY TO MAKE ALL OF US LOOK LIKE THE BAD GUYS....ONE SIDED STATEMENTS!!!!THE REAL RETARDED PART IS THEY PRESENT THAT TO A CONGRESSMAN THROUGH A LOBBYING GROUP AND THEY ARE SO CAUGHT UP IN MAKING A PERCIEVED MAJORITY GROUP HAPPY THAT THEY LOSE THE IDEA TO THINK ABOUT IT OR MAKE A REASONABLE THOUGHT AGAINST IT.

OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IS WE DONT HAVE THE SHEER DEDICATION AND RESOURCES TO MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE....YEAH I READ WE ARE THE ONES WHO VOTE IN OFFICIALS THAT ULTIMATELY GET STUFF DONE BUT REALLY IN THE END THAT PERSON TAKES THE POPULAR SIDE.......AND IT CURRENTLY LOOK LIKE THE POPULAR SIDE IS ECO-FRIENDLY GROUPS.....SAD BUT TRUE!!!

THE SOLUTION???
AT ONE POINT I THOUGHT A UNIFIED GROUP THE THE MOTORCYCLISTS HAVE THE AMA.....BUT I THINK OUR GROUP AS A WHOLE DOESNT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY ENOUGH TO MAKE ANYTHING LIKE THAT HAPPEN.......YEAH ,HOW MANY GUYS DO YOU KNOW THAT DISAPPEAR WHEN A CLEAN-UP IS NEEDED BUT SPEND EVERY OTHER WEEKEND USING THE STUFF THAT SOME OF US ARE TRYING TO SAVE??? THE VOLUNTEERS ARE DEEP IN THE MINORITY....BUT STILL SOLDIER ON TRYING TO KEEP WHAT WE HAVE.

IN THE END IT SEEMS THAT IT MIGHT BE TOO LITTLE TOO LATE........

ON A SIDE NOTE....YOU GUYS DO REALIZE THE "REGISTER YOUR OFF-ROAD VEHICLE" LEGISLATION IS ANOTHER STEP IN CLOSING TRAILS??? AS WELL AS ANOTHER SOURCE OF INCOME FOR THE STATE THAT WILL HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN???

SINCE MOST OF MY OFF-ROAD STUFF IS OFF-ROAD ONLY THIS PISSES ME OFF MAYBE A BIT MORE THAN SOME......

LIKE..... WHY DO I STILL HAVE TO PAY A HIGHWAY TAX ON THE GAS I ONLY USE OFF-ROAD???
AND IF I HAVE TO REGISTER MY OFF ROADER WHY NOT DO THE SAME FOR THE HORSE PEOPLE??? THEY GET A FREE PASS SINCE THEY ARE ONE OF THE MAIN GROUPS SUPPORTING THIS!!!(AND WHILE WE ARE AT IT,MAKE THEM KEEP A BIG BAG FOR CLEANING UP THE HORSE CRAP!!!)

HERE IS MY PREDICTION FOR THE OFF-ROAD REGISTRATION PROGRAM.....

EVERYONE GETS A STICKER(A SMALL ONE, NOT THE FIRST PLANNED ONE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE A LIC PLATE SO YOU CAN TURN IN THE IDIOTS....)

THEN ALL THE SUDDEN QUADS,DIRTBIKES AND 4X4s HAVE DIFFERENT DESIGNATIONS ,THEN THEY CAN SEPARATE TRAILS FOR ONLY CERTAIN TYPES OF OFF-ROADERS.(DIVIDE AND CONCOUR (sp?)...).

THEN..... THEY START THE NEED TO GET A TRAIL SUBMITTED DESIGNATION CRAP CALI HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH.....BUT NOW THE GROUPS ARE SO SMALL IT WONT MATTER BECAUSE IT WILL SEEM THE TRAILS SEE VERY LITTLE USE......GONE!!!

DID YOU KNOW A LOCAL OFF-ROAD MOTORCYCLE GROUP SUPPORTS THIS REG PLAN???:pissed2:

MAYBE IM WRONG....BUT LOOK AT THE STATE TO OUR WEST.....LOTS OF THOSE PEOPLE LIVING HERE NOW.....

if they're going to register (oops, tax) OHVs, then why the hell not horses and mountain bikes? I wonder how it would fly if one had a diesel powered rig and you use the farm colored fuel...humm.... cheaper, gobs of torque and sounds loud enough to piss-off the tree huggers. as for the future, it was once predicted OHVs would be limited to play areas (aka reservations) but even those places back east and in the south are getting closed.

Speaking if reservations, if the native tribes had any sense, they'd create OHV areas and make $. They already do that with smokes and fireworks...

Here is an organization that I found that seems to be on the right track...

http://www.nohvcc.org/index.asp

I too thought about an overall organization like the ama for offroad rigs and Rockape and I talked about it but like he said it comes down to how many are really willing to stand up and let their voices be heard. And it seems like a lot of the meetings they have that are open to the public for us to voice our concerns are in the middle of the week during work hours and usually in some weird location that makes it a pain to get there...plus even when we turn out in hordes it seems like they just glance over us with that deer in the headlight look.

I think this is the biggest issue we have, most of us 99% work long hours and demanding jobs that we don't have the luxury of taking time off to attend the meetings. Yet I also think they really don't care what we have to say (Their minds are already made up), Mark with the off road diesel fuel, I don't see why not, since it's "Off-Road" only, and not licensed you are allowed to run it, yes I would love to do that and annoy the tree huggers, and when I get angry I do make some retarded decisions but I don't act on them, just vocalize them

I am just fustrated seeing whats happening around us and not being able to do a damn thing about it. Should we just scream and yell at them to get the point across ?? it's just too damn one sided !!

I did however speak to one of the forestry service managers up in S. Lake over a week ago, and told him you know, I am offended by the fact that we as 4 wheelers in general get labled badly, and yes there's bad apples in our bunch, just like every bunch, but when you shut down trails, it in turn creates more stress and impact on existing trails, Also to do a study on run off is absurd, I asked him what happens in the spring run off ? heavy seasonal rains ?? you get the same effect, do you not ? his response was, Well, Yes. I also told him it's just common sense that if you limit and close trails that it will put greater strain on existing trails and that it will make it easier for you (USFS) to shut those trails down. He said I never thought of it that way. I told him we have just as much right to the outdoors as any enviromentalist has, and if it's what you (USFS) want to do is shut down our trails, then you need to shut it off completely to everyone and everything. I also told him that this "Big $$$" bull needs to end. I reminded him that theres millions tied up in off-roading and we are spenders too, and we also bring $$$ to the local areas as well. He was real receptive to hear what I had said, and wanted to use our voice in the meetings with other districts, he said we need more vocal input.

Back to the top, when we do these things we still loose. Why are the Environmentalists so strong ?? where are they getting their funding ??? and how can we rival them in thier own game to save ours.

I pondered on this for a bit (Yes I'm slow), But what if, just what if we banned the sale of T.P. to the enviro's ? What if the enviro's could not use or buy anything packaged with wood products ? How would their attitude change ? Just ponder that thought...... Yeah it would be awesome !!!

i had a funny thought just now, about why this particular group is doing this lol, all the other reasons were taken lmao, what confuses me is, theres a million offroad vehicles, in whatever forms, that get driven ridden every other weekend, but how many cars, trucks, big rigs, and what not are in cali lol, like is there even a count, and there worried about some offroad vehicles that run better then 90 percent of the vehicles on the road lol, the way it kinda sounds is there makin it out that u guys are the sole contributer to airbourne pollution, hahaha, comical, i love alberta, do whatever u want, whenever u want, wheel it up lol
