G'morning ladies and gentlemen.
My name is Keith, I live in S Reno. Im a transplant from Chicago. I was referred here by RustyTLC.
Im potentially getting into some more creative engineering on my new project 76 FJ40. This place came highly recommended for a great fab knowledge base.
Ive been lurking for about a month now and just thought Id post up and say hello.
Not totally new to this...My first build was an 88 FJ62 cruiser wagon that I have since SORT OF out grown. To remedy that, I picked up a basket case 76 FJ40 that Ill be building as a streetable rock rig. Smaller, lighter, EASIER to work on and the wife is on board with it too.:Big Grin:
So hello!
Great site so far!

WELCOME....AND DONT LET SLVRBCK(AKA CHICKEN WING) NEAR ANYTHING YOU HAVE WITH A SAWZALL,FOR SOME REASON HE HAS A PROBLEM LETTING OFF THE TRIGGER BEFORE THE RIG IS REDUCED TO SCRAP SMALLER THAN YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR POCKET!!!:gapteeth:
OH AND DONT FORGET, HE BREAKS $100,000 RIGS ON STEVES LOOP.....ON THE EASY PART!!!
BACK ON TOPIC...... A RIG THAT GETS DRIVEN TO THE TRAIL WILL PROBABLY GET MORE USE....BUT MAYBE NOT QUITE AS HARD USE!!!!

I actually was not into wheeling when I was in Chicago. Id have to assume not too much except MUD and old rock quarries.
Im coming up on my 5th year into this GOD FORSAKEN ADDICTION!
It is truly MADDENING! I went on ONE TRIP, and I was HOOKED. Came home, got a rig and my life has not been the same since!

OOOOH yeah!
Im am well aware of Chris's compulsive tendencies with steel cutters.
A rig the that I have to trailer is useless to me. Ill do what I can with what I have and can build to run to and from.
Unfortunately, I have to build on a budget, pay as I go and build what I can myself vs. paying others to do it WITHOUT cutting major safety corners. Diffs...I get em done. Auto trans...take that shit to someone who knows what the fuck theyre doing... etc.
Gimme some steel, a welder and cutting utensils...I can do a pretty fair job!
Great info here so far!
Thanks for the welcome gents!

You could try using the low gears in lieu of the THROTTLE!:jerry:

DIDN'T USE ANY THROTTLE(NOT NORMAL)....IT WAS IN LOW/1ST GEAR. IT REALLY BOGGLES MY MIND THAT IT BROKE. I KNOW THIS WILD MAN FROM CALI THAT RUNS 5.71'S/WELDED F/R WITH 38 SX'S AND HAMMERS HIS SHIT HARD AND HE HASN'T BROKE A 27....I JUST DON'T GET IT!!!

You have no idea how many time that birf was shock loaded before it broke. Or if it had a crack that just happened to fail at that moment.

Just do few presses with the new axles to make up for it.
