I have 1987 4runner and I am totally lost on what is wrong with this thing. I was driving it about two weeks ago and I thought it would be a really great I idea to burn out in it for some friends, it wasn't, because for one its on its last life and two its also the only thing i have and it has over 250,000 miles on it, almost immediately after i did a fatty burn out it felt like i was dragging a 2000lb boat anchor behind me , I was barley able to limp it home, so the next day I went and pull the plugs which where fouled insanely bad I changed those and the and the fuel filter and I can get to idle fine just like it ran before but i still feels like there major drag when i drive it , the clutch doesn't smell like its burning but the rpm still seem to go as i accelerate but I barley move at a snails pace, i have no Idea what to do I am not mechanic obviously if any has could offer any help or a hand grenade I would really appreciate it, thanks

Jack it up off the ground and see if all the tires spin freely. Maybe a brake is hung up?

MAYBE CHECK THE TIMING....IF ITS GOT 250K ON IT AND ITS A 22RE....ITS LIKELY THE CHAIN SKIPPED A TOOTH....THE TIMING LIGHT WILL TELL THE TALE IF THATS THE CASE IT WILL USUALLY BE WAY OUT!!!!
DOES IT FREE REV OK OUT OF GEAR??

are the RPMs increasing at the same rate you are accelerating? if not i would think it is the clutch or the throw-out bearing. if so i would try what EastCoast said. just be careful if you do so.

This happened to me randomly, (not after trying to spin the tires with a 22r, however) and it turned out the two screws holding the distributor in place had loosened up and the distributor had rotated a few degrees screwing up my timing. Hopefully for you it's something that stupid and easy.
