Ok who builds the badest transmission around.
I've got a couple quotes from online companies for some sweet transmission with me installing them. But before I bite the bullet, i figure i'll get some local guys to quote it as well.
Here's what I have:
Truck: 2002 Cummins 2500 4x4 with the 47re
Mods: Cold air intake, 4" exhaust, Adrenaline with Pulse, Farm Boy Diesel 150 injectors
Driving style: HARD I like my trucks like I like my women, hard and fast.
So far i've got the following quotes:
DTT Transmission: Stage 3 trans, 3 disc billet converter, shipping both ways 4 grand
Goerend High HP trans: 5 disc billet converer, billet input, bill insert flywheel 5 grand
Suncoast: Trans and 5 disc converter 4 grand
So let's hear it guys, i know alot of you have buddies who build transmission. I've heard from a few people Mark at Hollars in Gardnerville builds a mean Dodge trans, as well as Kevin at CV trans?? But didn't he lose his main guy for transmissions??

Are all dodge transmisions prone to failure? I got 137k on my 03 and it seems fine, my father n law has 120k on his 06 and its doing fine, and the old dodge (02) has almost 400k and we just rebuilt the original one for the second time.

I've got suncoast parts in my trans and so do the rest of my duramax buddies and they have taken anything we've thrown at them so far. You might PM 686smog on the other board, I think he's got one of the most powerfull dodge's in town and i'm sure he'd know the best way to go about it. I heard his was like 1200hp?

Dodge transmissions, especially the older 47re is barely enough to handle stock power, let alone all the power i'm throwing at my truck now. :D
Hell even powerstrokes and duramax transmissions are prone to failure once you get the motors putting some decent power out. My old boss had 7 grand into his allison trans in his 04 duramax. Dear god that thing hauled some ass.

I've heard good things about suncoast as well. I can get a full transmission with torque converter from them for less then 4k and install it myself. That's a pretty sweet deal seeing as the local guys are wanting for 3000 to 3500 for basically a stock rebuild with a shift kit.

i have the same tranny as you 48re, they are better than the 47re, mine has 115K on it and holding strong, but i know many who have lost them at 80k miles with stock power.
you could get a 48re, with limited mods
I expect mine to go soon, so i bought one from wrecked 05, its just sitting, waiting.
My understanding is a good cooler, shift kit and torque convertor are you really need to do for it to last forever, (w/o huge power)
if you want to save money, replace it before it starts to go that way you can reuse your touque convertor (most expensive part of the rebuild), onuce it statrs slipping the torque convertor should be replaced, hard to get that shit out of there, even with a flush.

normally the converter is the head of the problem, the converter gets taken out and usually takes the tranny out... atleast thats what happened to my dads tranny in his dodge, from most people i talk to is if you just throw a suncoast converter in there with nothing else it will help because they make less heat. so im told anyway

I believe the 48re and the 47re have different controllers/computers. But yah a lot of the internal mods to the 47re are to swap out to 48re parts.
The problem with my truck is, I am throwing huge power at it, with thoughts of more. Between the adrenalin and the FBD injectors, my truck is, ah......it's quick. Let's just go with that. hahaha
I got a quote for a Goerend trans, triple disk billet converter, billet input, intermediate, drum, levels, custom valve body, deep pan, completely upgraded internals with extra clutches and a haisley insert flywheel for $4600 with shipping both ways. With a 5 year, 100,000 warranty on the trans, and a lifetime warranty on the converter no matter how much power I throw at it. I'm thinking that might be the way to go.

A converter alone will help, but a good converter and valve body will go a long way on a stock trans in good condition. The valve body will allow more line pressure to the converter which is one of the root problems with converter failure to begin with. Oh that and dodge makes a POS converter.
