So this might be a dumb question but here it is. I have a bad universal join in the front end of my jeep. I pulled the shafts out and tried pressing the universal joint out after I removed the clips that hold it in, but had no luck. If I add heat to get them out will it weaken my chromoly shafts? Any other tricks to get them out?

i wouldn't add heat yet. you may need to pay more attention to getting it lined up STRAIGHT in the press with the right "fixtures". unless the ears are really messed up, but then you'll probably need a new shaft anyhow. i had to spend about an hour making the right "fixture" to hold my Spidertrax shafts.
you are using a press, not a vise right? even the smallest presses shouldn't have a problem.

I USUALLY OPEN UP THE VISE WISE ENOUGH TO ALLOW TWO OF THE JOINT LEGS TO REST ON IT...THEN TAKE A BIG HAMMER AND WHACK JUST BELOW THE CAP YOU ARE TRYING TO REMOVE....FORCING THE AXLE SHAFT DOWN AND THE CAP TO COME OUT....FLIP IT OVER AND DO THE OTHER SIDE....REINSTALL USING THE VISE TO PRESS THE CAPS BACK ONE AT A TIME!!!
I CAN FIND A PIC OR A VID...MAYBE MY WAY IS SO EASY NO BODY DOES IT!!!
IF YOU NEED HELP LET ME KNOW...THEY ARENT HARD!!!

The vise and hammer normally works for me to. I do have a ball joint press that works awesome for the ones that don't want to budge.

Thanks steve. I got it done.. One of them was just stuck in there like no other. Once I got that one poped loose the rest weren't too bad. When the caps fell off after I got them out it was basically all dust haha. I
