Ok so I thought the 5.9 Cummins will run forever! On monday it went into limp mode and I had to have it towed from Tahoe to Carson. Dodge replaced the 1-2-3 cylinder harness under the valve cover. On Thursday on the way up spooner it went back to limp mode and dodge replaced the PCM. Saturday I hook up the trailer to head out to moonrocks and ITS BACK!! The check engine light and limp mode. I went home and later in the day I reset the computor it ran fine and then this morning we were going to head out to Lahonton and guess what "limp" !! :complain: Its at Dodge again any IDEAS ?? Its under warranty but should I just fix it myself? Thats what I get for thinking about selling it.

fuel delivery issue. mine does it sparatically. but only for 5-10 seconds at a time, and only a half dozzen times so far.
now my slam bang crunch tranny on the other hand? yea, it's finally due to be replaced. and maybe find out why the t-case won't stay in high range anymore too....

Mine was doing that too. It would be fine then limp, then shut down, then start up and be ok for a few hundred miles... I had one of the pumps replaced now it runs fine.

OK, now they are saying its a bad injector (I told them that last monday)but Dodge wont just let them change it. They have to pull all of the injectors and send them to Dodge for inspection. It will be at least a week!! :complain: If they find any water contamination then it wont be covered under warranty and I'll have to pay them to reinstall the bad injectors or install new. Like I said AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!

My 06 did this right around 28k miles. It went into limp mode, took it to Dodge, they checked codes, replaced a wiring harness and said "It's fixed" 1 week later, same thing. I happened to be in Reno so I took it to Reno dodge, they reset everything and it was fine. 2 days later, same thing headed home from work, so I read about it on cummins forum and finally went to Kragen and bought 2 things of Sea Foam.
I opened the fuel filter canister, drained the fuel and filled the entire canister with Sea Foam. Then put the other in the tank. Then I ran it...... HARD for about 20 miles, the problem never came back. I read that it was either a bad injector or dirty injectors and that Sea Foam would clean them if they were dirty, and I figured if it didn't work, i'd atleast know it wasn't dirty injectors. It ran great all the way to the day I sold it. :D

So, when is someone going to make a tow rig with a Cummins (or 'old' 7.3) and an Allison? :dunno:
One of the last vehicles I helped develop before I retired had a 5.9 and Allison. A great combination.

I've seen allisons blow up too. My old boss had an 04 duramax that was seriously bombed and aftter 3 factory rebuilds he finally dropped 9k on a billet transmission. Yah.......9........GRAND.....hahaha
I'd love an early 2000's F250 crew cab 4x4 with a 12v Cummins and a 6 speed. that would be my all time dream tow rig.

OK, so now they are telling me that ALL 6 injectors are bad, because they are dirty. I have to produce reciepts for all the fuel filters since I bought the truck. Then they might replace them. I have changed the fuel filters every 10k.(Dodge did it 3 times) I have never heard of all 6 injectors going bad at once. The dealership wants $720 each for the injectors. UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE !! :complain: When I first had an issue it threw a code for a bad #2 injector and they replaced the wire harness in the valve cover. In the mean time my truck has been down for 2+ weeks and best case is to get it back in 1 more week. :dunno:

Less than 10 minutes after getting the call from the service manager, the GM of Carson Dodge called to see if I would tune up his Jet skis for the summer. I filled him in and told him he would have to drop them off, because I own a dodge!! :Big Grin: Luckly I save all my receipts (tax write offs) so I'll turn them in tomorrow and the ball is in their court. I filed a claim with Chrysler customer service but was basically told there was nothing they could do its up to the dealers factory rep. :dunno:
Man whats up with the new stuff

I've never heard of all 6 injectors going bad at the same time. What a crock of shit man. And the sad thing is, Carson Dodge is 100x better than Reno Dodge. Reno has some good machanics but overall they suck.
I hope the work it out for ya man.

I got it back tonite, Thanx to Steve and Ray over at Carson Dodge. It did end up costing me $500 deductble but its better than $4700+ they originally quoted me. I dont feel I should have to pay anything because it still under warranty and I proved that I had maintained it. Not like I have the resources to fight Chrysler(or Fiat or the FEDS or whoever owns it now!!). It has 6 NEW injectors and fuel tubes now. Its nice to get it back. I'm just hoping it lasts cause I really like this truck. :dunno:
85runner I thought that was you, Does catseye give you a new truck every week!! :Big Grin:

The 6 injectors on the 5.9 are a do it yourself job too, but if it's under warranty i'd have them do it too. :D I did the injectors and fuel tubes on my 02 and it was pretty simple. Time consuming but no overly hard.

I'm another one that thinks thats a little strange about all 6 injectors going bad. Sounds like carson dodge is about as good as winkel at fixing diesels. If it makes you feel any better winkel blew up my engine...
Hey I'm curious if any of you guys have ever called Rocky Mountain Cummins to see if they can do work on the pickup motors? They atleast have guys there that know WTF is up with those engines and how to fix them

What was the deductible for?? There is no such thing as a $500 deductible with Dodge. $100 yes, but not $500. FYI, Reno Dodge has at least one tech that is a wheeler. Not sure if he is any good, but I am also friends with their factory rep, and can get an inside line if needed.
FYI, the place that we have been sending our injectors has said that every injector we send is bad, and needs to be replaced.... in the last two weeks we have found a differant place cause cummins is tired of replacing so many injectors.
Sorry you got screwed, but I guess you can't trust everyone:complain:
